Question by {{Cosmic Magnet}}: Spiritually speaking, was the past a better time?
Would an ancient time, heavy with mysticism, possibly feel more rich than life does now?
A life of devotion to many gods, of ecstasy of the spirit?
I’m taking about a time that pre dates monotheism, thousands and thousands of years ago.
I think that humans had to develop the way we did, or else it wouldn’t have happened, and I’m not saying there isn’t anything good about what we have now (advanced medicine, etc) but SPIRITUALLY speaking (I actually mean that this time!) was the ancient world healthier for the human spirit, with all of its magic?
Explain your answer please!
Ancient ancient ancient!!!
Not 1300s, not the year 2, not the year 500 BC… I’m talking, many thousands of years ago!
And fear is included!
Connection with raw, primal energy means very much fear!
But it’s so powerful, isn’t it?

I suspect most ancient people were too preoccupied with concerns of plague and invasion to be very spiritual.
Yep,in the ancient time the word God was totally unknown and everyone had a will to kill.
If it was a more fulfilling time, then it was also a much more horrifying time.
Mysticism is powerful in both ways: by love and by fear.
it all depends on your definition of better.
We live much longer lives now than they did thousands of years ago…
so if longer life is better, than no.
Without a doubt, a simpler life style has a lot of appeal. I’ve watched and been around the Amish (the plain people) and found their lack of modern conveniences to be nice…
But, I’m spoiled and not very good when it comes to survival skills.
As far as spiritual matters (speaking of the time of my ancestors, the Picts and Celts), there were still unbelievers, believers, fanatics, and strawmen builders. Human nature has not changed (sadly).
