Question by the chameleon: Are there seasons (or “cycles”) of consciousness?
Like there are seasons and cycles of the earth, and of its creatures… what about within consciousness? And if so, what are the ramifications of this?

What season, or cycle, of consciousness are we in currently?

And as always… please elaborate!

Thank you to those who answer…

Note: Question asked in two sections, no need to answer in both! ;-)

One of the more thought provoking questions I’ve seen in here lately. Ok, here goes: I would postulate that there are “seasons” or cycles of consciousness based on the fact that the same forces which act on and shape the outside world, also act upon the unseen portions of nature, inner consciousness being one of them. I have observed that at different times of the year, at least within myself. I am more productive, or more inclined to switch off the tube and grab a 10,000 word crossword puzzle and it appears to be cyclic. It is possible that my observations are tainted by the fact that I exist within my own consciousness. Again, stellar question…

TED’s mission statement begins:
We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we’re building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.

Question by Kemo: What is consciousness and what is reality? Is awareness the origin of perception, or the origin of existence?
Mystics like Jesus, Buddha, and Lao Tzu, as well as modern physics, seem to state that everything in existence is simply the motion of energy at different levels relative to each other, all being part of the whole. However, one pervading concept endures: the awareness of awareness, consciousness. Is this phenomenon the root of existence, or merely an effect of it? Why is everything in motion, if that is the case, instead of being at rest and therefore non-relational, or absolute (Nothingness)? Is reality the result of awareness, or is awareness the result of reality?

Awareness cannot exist without reality or existence. They are certainly intertwined, as awareness manifests itself at the very moment the existence has been created.

Question by Think!: Is consciousness part of a different dimension entirely?
you know like maybe the 4th dimension? or the 5th? I need to think.. an array of questions just popped into my head (all focusing around consciousness) which I do not have the answers to, it’s giving me quite the head ache.

It could be. Although no one really even knows what consciousness is or where it comes from! It’s one of the biggest mysteries of our universe!

I was just thinking about consciousness last night, and what makes your consciousness yours and not someone elses, and whether the consciousness you have now is the same consciousness you had a few years ago (I’m talking as if it’s seperate from memories), and whether if you die and are resurrected, if it would still be YOU (your consciousness) or someone else experiencing your brain processes.

Consciousness could be construed as the “soul” in some cases, and souls would be on a different dimension I think.

You should ask this in the Philosophy section too.

WOW! You are tackling a topic that has recently become enormously controversial. The cutting edge in mind/body conversations swirls around the rather defensible arguments (Dennett and others) that there is NO CONSCIOUSNESS. I have been grappling with this concept on an online discussion group recently. How can it be that there is no self that thinks, perceives, believes, has a sense of its “self?” But this is the current discussion, and you really will be eons ahead of your classmates and probably your teacher if you have some of this information to contribute.

Read this: (it’s in Time magazine, so it’s readable–not overly esoteric)

Question by Dances with Kali: Is physical manifestation an arising or a fall of consciousness?
Kundalini runs both up and down the central channel, once Kundalini is “raised” we see the descent of Kundalini, of life as the arising of consciousness. True or false?
I didn’t say consciousness is changed but that it arises with each life, in other words….the more ponds, the more consciousness. If this isn’t the case then life is worthless.

Question by Mawkish: Do you need consciousness to experience the will to live?
Do you need the will to live to experience consciousness?
I am very specifically talking about all life, not just humans or animals.

Answer by The One
NO. you need awareness. We are conscious throughout before and after death. But awareness only comes when exposed to contrasting qualities that forces your consciousness to react and learn.

Contrasting qualities of the spirit and matter gives rise to the soul’s awareness.

no, it’s in your brain, plain and simple.

It’s like this, head trauma and brain damage affects your consciousness. When the house next door collapses, it doesn’t affect your consciousness in any way whatsoever. So there is no question where consciousness is.

Question by Artemis: How can there be any limit to consciousness? Isn’t it infinite?
We can think, dream and imagine anything. Our consciousness is infinite. There is no time or space or any physical limitation to our consciousness. This Infinite Consciousness can create billions of universes, dimensions and scenarios in order to amuse and educate itself.

“Our soul is a single unit of consciousness that stems from the Creator’s consciousness. This is known as “Infinite Consciousness.” All units of consciousness are interconnected to all other types of consciousness. Everything that exists is called the “Creator” (also known as the Source). Infinite Consciousness is the universal energy that exists everywhere or “All that is.”

Each one of us was given a divine mission – go away and explore ourselves. Learn, grow, and understand everything that has been created and eventually rejoin the Creator after having learnt everything that is infinitely possible to experience and having acquired the highest understanding of creation itself or “All that is.” Your path of evolution is unique to you, but you are not separate from other souls, rather your individuality is your unique story and journey to understand creation.

Your mission is achieved by ascending your individual consciousness through each of the dimensions within the universe. To begin your mission, you had to experience a variety of intense “third density” (i.e. the physical universe) lessons on Earth, including selfishness, pain, poverty, love, anger, etc. Earth is a planet to begin evolving your consciousness at the infant level, until you consciously realize this illusion and choose to stop experiencing these dense lessons and decide to continue your spiritual growth beyond this dimension.”
