Question by Blissme: Where can i read interesting stuff about science and consciousness?
I would love a site(/s) where I could visit a hour a day and just feel enriched for my whole week!
Stuff about Human consciousness, science of all sorts;
Some of my favorite research was Message from Water

or narrative version

David Willcock’s research field

And I was very amazed by researches about the pineal gland
-one of my favorite topics
David Wilcock cover that area as well.

-You can also just pop in an interesting researches that you loved!
Thanks, much love and a brilliant day to you!

P.S (I was tempted to post this on philosophy because Ive seen so many intelligent posts over there, but It fits here better)
Waiting for more suggestions fellas

TED’s mission statement begins:
We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we’re building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.

If you watch some of the people who gave talks, it will give you ideas on what people think.
Then you can go on and read more.
If you want shorter articles,

Question by Deep Thought: A serious question for atheists about death (read details for question)?
We know the brain is made up matter and energy (our thoughts are made up of energy that can measured in the form of “brain waves”, and our brains emit electrical energy) This energy makes up our consciousness (at least I think most people can agree on that).

We know that energy is neither created or destroyed, but it is only changed from one state to another (see law of conservation of energy).

I have heard many atheists say that when we die we just die and we are gone. There is nothing of us left and no after life…our consciousness ceases to exist. So my question is this:

By what mechanics is a persons consciousness completely destroyed at death, and how do you “get around” the laws of conservation of energy?

Please note: I am not trying to convert anyone here, I am just curious if any of you have thought about this and reasoning.

Forgive if me if this question was already asked, I didn’t see it anywhere and maybe some didn’t get to answer it anyway.
Honestly, I just thought of this a half hour ago when I read someone’s question and it made me think about this.
Road Horse™ (Not To Be Cloned) – but in your answer you admit that it does go somewhere? Isn’t this a bit contradictory?
terafloo…interesting analogy, but we can retrieve data from a “broken” computer. Hmmm, I wonder if we’ll be able to retrieve thoughts from a “broken” brain someday ;-)
The Reverend Soleil – LOL..well serve me up and call me a pork chop :-)
Skepticat (UKB Operative) – so in a sense, we do continue on, even if we are worm food :-)
vic91106 – hmmm, I wonder if it would be possible to measure the amount of energy the system that makes of the body brings into it, and then measure the amount of energy expelled. That would be interesting to see.
vic91106 – I’m in agreement. For those who are saying the energy does convert, in that eventually we rot and then the worms eat us, transferring energy to them. I thought about that, and that sounds good, but doesn’t quite work. The worms, and microorganisms break down the matter that is left behind (no longer receiving energy), and convert that to energy. At the point of our death there appears to be a sudden drop in energy contained within our body/brains. As for computer analogies, they are decent analogies, but the problem is we are alive, the computer is a machine (like comparing apples to oranges). So now I’m left to ponder exactly what life is…evidence suggests it isn’t merely a material thing, and it is apparently related to energy (some of which appears to be electrical energy)…pretty darn fascinating. I’m glad I asked this question :-)

When you die the electrical charges in your brain cease to happen.

Question by Sunny D: How did the ancient mystics know about everything we are learning about today?
When it comes to today’s scientific discoveries of consciousness, non-locality, you name it, how did the ancient mystics, specifically the Hindu and Buddhist ones, know about this already? They obviously didn’t know quantum physics. Did they get help from aliens? Or does meditation just teach you all this somehow? Theories?

Question by : What can neuroscience tell us about individual differences in intelligence?

Best answer:

Answer by Ano Nymous
1. location of brain activity for various tasks (i.e. which structures are involved in what)…pretty standard actually but some differences in left-handed vs right-hand people, certain mental disorders (i.e. enlarged ventricles in schizophrenia), brain damage/neurological disorders/trauma/anything medical that might affect the brain/individual’s plasticity

2. which neurotransmitters enhance or inhibit intelligence; optimal levels

3. contributing factors to intelligence and various types of intelligence (i.e. tendency for long-term potentiation or the neuroscience term for the process of “learning”)

4. How all these things might function differently in different people to produce similar or dissimilar results

Question by : neuroscience question about memory?
does anyone know what region of the memory banks people use to remember vocabulary? I am guessing it’s different from the one you use when you regurgitate information for a test that you take in college because you are trying to recall something u have known before that u didn’t premeditate on prior to you using your sentence you are either speaking or writing. I have known before that there is a long-term and short-term memory. But the region of memory for words where you have to remember something seems to be different when it comes to language or sentence structuring. So for any neuroscience experts here or for anyone who known, please let me know?

Broca’s area is responsible for speech and that is in the parietal lobe. This is in the left half of the brain for right handed people and most of the time in the right half for left handed people.

Question by : How can I learn about natural sciences (physics, astronomy, astrophysics) if they are not related to my major?
I love science but the only sciences I somewhat understand are biological and social science but I know almost nothing when it comes to the natural sciences (except biological) I would love to learn about physics and astronomy. I want to mention that in high school I only took the most basic physics and astronomy classes (only one time) I am in my first year of college for (majoring in nursing so physics and astronomy are not pre-reqs) and I’m taking psychology, nutrition (biology) and chemistry.

I try reading articles about astrophysics and it’s obvious I need to know about it before I can understand it

I know it’s helpful, if not necessary, to have some mathematical knowledge and being familiar with the scientific method.

Where should I start? Is there a book someone can recommend?

Best answer:

Answer by eri
You can take a class in those subjects even if they aren’t related to your major. That’s what electives are for. Or you can get an intro astronomy book out of the library.

Question by Automaton: A mystery! What are these spiritual early Christain quotes all esoterically referring to about male/female?
2 Clement, “Let us expect, therefore, hour by hour, the kingdom of God in love and righteousness, since we know not the day of the appearing of God. For the Lord Himself, being asked by one when His kingdom would come, replied, ‘When two shall be one, that which is without as that which is within, and the male with the female, neither male nor female.’”

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become *one flesh*” (Gen 2:23-24)

“Great is the mystery of marriage! For without it, the world would not exist” (Phillip Gospel).

106. Jesus said, “When you make the two into one, you will become children of Adam, and when you say, ‘Mountain, move from here!’ it will move.” (Thomas Gospel)

“When Eve was still with Adam, death did not exist. When she was separated from him, death came into being. If he enters again and attains his former self, death will be no more.” (Phillip Gospel)

Apply it within. Thoughts?

- Shalom.
“If the woman had not separated from the man, she should not die with the man. His separation became the beginning of death. Because of this, Christ came to repair the separation, which was from the beginning, and again unite the two, and to give life to those who died as a result of the separation, and unite them. But the woman is united to her husband in the bridal chamber. Indeed, those who have united in the bridal chamber will no longer be separated. Thus Eve separated from Adam because it was not in the bridal chamber that she united with him.” (Phillip Gospel)
22. Jesus saw some babies nursing. He said to his disciples, “These nursing babies are like those who enter the (Father’s) kingdom.”
They said to him, “Then shall we enter the (Father’s) kingdom as babies?”
Jesus said to them, “When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female, when you make eyes in place of an eye, a hand in place of a hand, a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then you will enter [the kingdom].” (Thomas Gospel)

This Tantra was/is practiced and with great results as it deals with the powerful sex drive. The female/male with their union achieve oneness with the divine nature of both, very blissful, it is hard to describe but can and is experienced by those who are ready. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. What is very sad is that the Goddess has been almost destroyed by western religions and in order for this Tantra the female *must* be worshiped by the male in their union, this is the fail safe for she holds the serpent power {Kundalini} at her base Chakra. She is the Sun and the man is the Moon, reflecting her energy through himself and back to her. Thank you for the question.

EDIT: Those adds over there on the right really crack me up. LOL

EDIT: #2 What I am speaking of is not intellectual, it is not thinking the 2 are 1, look around with your own eyes, what do you see? It is experienced and experienced very fast on this path, it can only be taught from an experienced female to a male or an experienced male to a female. All the books and ideas are almost worthless until after one has experienced this path and it has very much to do with sexuality. It must be experienced with the skin, flesh, bones and marrow.

Question by Sirius: Did The Ancients Know About Flight Before Modern Man?
The mahabarata tells of prehistoric vehicles that fly and show as radiant as the sun these vehicles were called Vimanas by the ancient Hindus. These beings that would step out would look just like a Hindu as if the Creator of all things sends you a angel of your bloodline.

The sumerian story of Gilgamesh points out that he meet Noah of the Hebrews but calls him Utpishtim, Gilgamesh the giant also goes to a place that he can seen shine as bright as the sun which I assume to be Atlantis or a place where these gods where dwelling. During his journey with Enkidu threw the water he tells of Flying fiery Chariots that pass over his head oppisite of the direction he is going. Toward babylon where Noah/Utpishtim came from.

Enkidu is taking to Nibiru (another planet) by gods who were from the place Gilgamesh sees showing brightly as the sun, which I assume to be Atlantis , in the tallons of a Eagle Enkidu was taken up, The reason I know he was in outer space because he gives details as what the earth looked like way above the firaments. He says the earth looked like a mill path and the water as a water troph. He goes on and says it also looked as a Jiggsaw puzzle, modern day astronauts of Nasa say the same exact thing.

Native American and Mayans among many other indian tribes tell of beings that rode in the sky in star ships and dwelled on a planet among the star constellation of the pleiades. Kukukalcan and Quetzocoalt were said to be bearded men of light skin similar to the tone of a indian mayan.

Enoch of the Cushites have tales of him being brought among the constellation Orion (heaven) by gods who rode in creatures that showed as light and smoked as a furnace, the same thing happend to Elijah of the Shemite/Hebrews 200 years later. The thing is that these gods where said to look as men with dazzling appereal on. They called these men mighty men of Yahweh, these men were said to be as a black man.

The egyptians along the Nile have tales of Mighty highly advanced beings that flew in the heavens in fiery boats. They called these beings Zep Tepi.

Long runway like markings runs for 1000 of miles in the deserts of Peru, they date back 2,000 years ago when the ancient nascans dwelled thier. Legends say that gods came down who was similar to the nascans with extraterrestrials and landed and used these fields to ride and practice thier flight in there ships.

The stonehenge has always been a mystery I beleive the european giants built it to make contact with angelic alien men who rode in spaceships and looked like them.

So do you beleive the ancients knew about flight before mordern man?

Ecclesiastes 1:11

The Old Testament says nothing is new

9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

11 There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.
