Question by Shannon W: Riddle me this…if we were made by a creator, who created the creator, and who created them, and so on?
I’m torn on this subject. I stand on a line between creation and evolution, often opting for a blend of the two. Its a bit of a paradox for me. I have a hard time believing that we evolved from microorganisms, but then there’s this creator question. At some point you have to say that something came from nothing, and its very trying going round and round in this circle. Your thoughts?
Please no nasty comments from you antireligious folks, I consider myself agnostic for the time being, with no formal religion, and I don’t need anyone to try to prove anything to me, so keep your nasty comments to yourself please.

The creator has always been there and always will be …. It is better to enjoy the moment then worry about things you can never change ….
I’m a christian so this is my opinion. God was just there and he was always there no one knows how so everyone is a descendent of adam and eve

I think that is the hardest concept to just accept as faith that God always has and always will exist. That like a circle their is no beginning and no end.
For Christians God always existed and created all things – including time. Our perspective is limited because we are subject to time but God isn’t. Before we were born, he knew us by name and knew everything we would do during our lives.
I understand your difficulty in understanding this. There is no definite answer but many myths try to account for this. Japanese creation myth assumes a creator in the beginning. Abrahamic religions tend to think that God is eternal and has always existed. Of all the philosophy I’ve read over the past six years, they usually fall under these two categories of assuming a creator to begin with or saying that it has been eternal. But good luck to ya.

The answer to your creator question is that it is fallacy of infinite regress. It is a necessary corollary that at some point there must be a self-contained initiating force. That of course does not prove the Bible or even Theism: that would be too much of a leap. But it is a reasonable position to hold.
In either case I think that people of reason and good-will [that excludes many on Y! Answers] can disagree. it is a matter that is not subject to empirical verification no matter what math someone may juggle.
Here’s one no one ever thinks could be possible. The creator used the method of evolution!!! Of course, it contradicts the Bible, but the Bible is nothing but a loosely historical and metaphorical account of a time in the past. The Adam and Eve story was created by men so as to leave the weight of the world and sin on the shoulders of woman. They were calling the shots so they could say whatever they wanted. it’s just a story, and one that did a lot of damage to our society. Evolution can’t be disputed, so why don’t we try to focus on melding the two ideas. God didn’t just snap his fingers… he started small and worked his way up. (or her way!)
I have this suspicion that our mental make-up deprives us the ability to comprehend our being. Since we think in words, which in itself has never been a factor in the ‘process’ of our becoming. Also, we are obsessed with reasoning and logical thinking which tend to get us nowhere but nowhere land. You may feel uneasy about having to believe by just believing..loving by just loving..but that’s the closest we can get to knowing by unknowing. WE WERE CREATED by whatever means, and that may not mean all ‘beings’ WERE created. Maybe we think the way all things created thinks. That’s our program or perhaps our glitch.
Well if you think about it no matter what we had to have come from somewhere, if evolution is true where did the monkeys or whatever come from, if you think if we evolved and so forth we still had to have come from somewhere, We never came from nothing Becuase nothing never existed, there was always always something, this is eternity, hard to comprehend and to think that we were and will always be, no matter where we are. Although it does get you thinking about where you were before you came to earth, of course you have always existed. but then theres where will I go when I die. I would rather think that we will exist and see our loved ones again instead of thats it.

the word creator has only one meaning the one who did it first there are no second creators. that’s why they had to come up with pattens. or get sued.
I see where you are coming from. The best way to get a message across is to avoid overtones on religion and personal maters. However, I do not think we should impose any limits on communication itself. The only thing that is required to say something is good manners and courtesy. A wishful statement that is put nicely over to you cannot raise your blood pressure, and if it does, you must be in the wrong. Philosophy here is pretty much like discussing or commenting on equations and curvatures, which are mathematical concepts that only the mind can understand. The way you feel about something has nothing to do with Philosophy at all and might put you at an undesirable disadvantage to go further on in the study of this subject.
I agree with you when you say humans evolve from micro organisms, but things do not come out of the blue. At some point you do not have to say “something came from nothing”, and it is possible to give account for that that seems to be worrying you. The Universe has not been created and it has neither a beginning nor an end. You do not need to put God at the beginning of everything because there is not such a beginning. Please do note that this is not the same as going in circles, as Plato would, and that in fact there is no need to go that way. As Cicero put it: “What power of mental vision enabled Master Plato to descry the vast and elaborate architectural process which, as he makes out, the deity adopted in building the structure of the universe? What method of engineering was employed? What tools and levers and derricks? What agents carried out so vast an undertaking? And how were air, fire, water and earth enabled to obey and execute the will of the architect? How did the five regular solids, which are the basis of all other forms of matter, come into existence so nicely adapted to make impressions on our minds and produce sensations?

Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (or Srila Prabhupada for short). These books have answered so many questions that I had, just like you, and more. Its not possible to get a grasp on the concept of an eternal existence with our present state of consciousness since we’ve been conditioned to think in terms of temporality (everything being temporary and always changing) for many millenia — not only through tradition, but from personal experience as well. Currently, we are in the bodily conception of life that causes us to believe we are the temporary body we inhabit and that this changing material world is our home. Neither one of these ideas is correct, but that’s our current state of affairs.
The concept that everything must have at one time come from something else is inherently a materialist idea. Spirit is not subject to such laws. By definition spirit is not under the laws of physics. If we assume for a moment that the Supreme Lord is the creator of the laws of physics because He is the creator of every aspect of the universe, then it follows that He is not subject to the universal law of origins and therefore it is possible for Him to be completely independent having no other source of creation or generation.
