Question by : Is it wrong to spell the Islamic collection of scriptures as the Koorahn?
Is it wrong to phonetically spell a word as it would be pronounced? It would seem pronunciation is essential when transliterating a word from one “alphabet” to another.
For example, I have seen Mohammad’s name spelled several different ways by Muslims, and all appear to be accepted without contest. What is wrong with spelling Qur’an or Koran as Koorahn?

It should be fine. Muslims consider any translations of the Qu’ran to be for convenient reference only. To actually count, it has to be in Arabic.
No. It’s not a word that was originally written in Romantic letters, therefore spelling it in “English” makes no difference.
