In Buddhist thought how can an enlightened being be free from karmic implications if everything, including the living Buddha, is still connected to everyone and everything else? Wouldn’t just by the fact of existing they are having karmic implications?

The ego has been transcended, so there is nothing for karma to attach to. The karma that was already active will be played out, but no more will be accumulated.
