Question by Just Be: How is time experienced at different levels of awareness?
In your experience &/or understanding is time experienced differently at different levels of conscious awareness?
Other than asleep or unconscious, have you ever experienced a change in how you perceive “the flow of time”?
Please be as specific as possible.
Thank You for answering.

When you’re happy it goes fast and when you’re not, it doesn’t.
The older you get the faster it goes… I don’t know if that’s cos you get happier but
In my case I am.

Give your answer to this question below!
Picture this: you are traveling on a highway about 60 mph as are most of the other motorists. When they change lanes you can easily see the motion of them moving. Maybe it takes them 3 seconds to change lanes once they see you approaching. To a driver going 200 mph, to him everyone else appears to stand still or move really slow. By the time he passes you, you wouldn’t have had time to even react and realize he was there because he already passed you. In the 3 seconds it takes you to change lanes, he already passed a dozen cars.
Awareness is the key. But what does that mean? They say that good times go fast, and bad times last too long. But I have been in life threatening situations, which were definitely NOT GOOD, and time was also altered some how. It’s not like it went faster or slower, but I became more aware of everything happening around us like at no other time. Before we were rescued we had already consigned ourselves to death. We were even debating on how it would be, fast and painless or slow and agonizing. Even after the Coast Guard had hauled us ashore and left we were still in some sort of altered consciousness. Even though my life had not really changed, I had gained a new appreciation of everything, a new awareness of all things both beautiful and ugly.
I would have to say there are levels of awareness in which time has great meaning, and therefore uses more memory cells. And levels in which it has little meaning and is forgotten and wasted.
The higher the level, the more non existent time becomes as it’s an illusion anyway. The universe operates on the “Present Moment” principle, it’s human beings that have established this thing called time. There’s no such thing in Spirit, it just doesn’t exist.
I don’t seem to have a direct experience of time–nor of space. Those “imperatives” of Immanual Kant just supply the framework matrix for what I do experience.
To say time doesn’t exist is the same as saying you and I don’t exist. Time is as useful and necessary as space and ‘stuff’ in the expression of Creation. When we are done with it it stops appearing in our experience. To say a dream isn’t real is nonsense. It is a dream just as substantial as God’s Dream of Creation. It has no substance at all.
Time comes to a standstill in the realization of its true nature as Maya. The higher the perception the less time intrudes on our experience. ‘Before I was born, I was the same. When I entered my mothers womb, I was the same. I was a child and now I am a man but I am the same. In time I will be old and then this form will pass away. But I will remain the same. Even into Eternity, I remain the loving expression of God. Only when I imagine that this form is my Self do I fear losing my life, my peace, my joy. It cannot be lost for it is my very nature, in the image of God.

The human brain and its temporal cortex. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_lobe
‘The temporal lobe is involved in auditory perception and is home to the primary auditory cortex. It is also important for the processing of semantics in both speech and vision. The temporal lobe contains the hippocampus and plays a key role in the formation of long-term memory.’
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anterograde_amnesia
‘Anterograde amnesia is a loss of the ability to create new memories after the event that caused the amnesia, leading to a partial or complete inability to recall the recent past, while long term memories from before the event remain intact. Anterograde amnesia and retrograde amnesia, where memories created prior to the event are lost, can occur together in the same patient. To a large degree, anterograde amnesia remains a mysterious ailment because the precise mechanism of storing memories is not yet well understood, although it is known which regions of the brain are involved.’

delta waves.
* Delta is the frequency range up to 4 Hz. It tends to be the highest in amplitude and the slowest waves. It is seen normally in adults in slow wave sleep. It is also seen normally in babies. It may occur focally with subcortical lesions and in general distribution with diffuse lesions, metabolic encephalopathy hydrocephalus or deep midline lesions. It is usually most prominent frontally in adults (e.g. FIRDA – Frontal Intermittent Rhythmic Delta) and posteriorly in children (e.g. OIRDA – Occipital Intermittent Rhythmic Delta).
theta waves.
* Theta is the frequency range from 4 Hz to 7 Hz. Theta is seen normally in young children. It may be seen in drowsiness or arousal in older children and adults; it can also be seen in meditation.[17] Excess theta for age represents abnormal activity. It can be seen as a focal disturbance in focal subcortical lesions; it can be seen in generalized distribution in diffuse disorder or metabolic encephalopathy or deep midline disorders or some instances of hydrocephalus. On the contrary this range has been associated with reports of relaxed, meditative, and creative states.

gamma waves.
* Gamma is the frequency range approximately 30–100 Hz. Gamma rhythms are thought to represent binding of different populations of neurons together into a network for the purpose of carrying out a certain cognitive or motor function.[2]’
Subjective ‘sense of time’, ‘fast time slow time, long time short time’, completely disregard and do not correlate with any objectively derived measurements of consciousness. Even answering ‘how is time experienced’ can not completely achieved to satisfaction because that ‘experience’ is concomitant to memory storage rates and and their system mode changes, and because of stimuli over which we have no complete control, prediction and awareness of/for.
Now, that being said, I have experiences in which my sense of time is psychically interfered with along with my emotional status. Cognitive scheme is also disrupted, so my subjective conscious appraisal for time continuity and rate assessment is acutely uncomfortable.
Yes.
Once upon a time I experienced the awareness of the Everlasting One that made me aware that the present, past and future were all at once to Him…. Just as He says in His Eternal Word, spoken from His Eternal Perspective:
“For so says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity; whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, even with the contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” Isaiah 57:15
Interestingly, the Everlasting Father, ( the High and Lofty One ) desires us to WAIT upon HIM !
Can you imagine what this means ?
To actually wait upon the One who inhabits all of Eternity Simultaneously !
The Holy Name of God “Yehova” literally means “the self existent Eternal One who comes to pass”
No wonder God was able to speak through His Holy Prophets words that were spoken years before it came to pass in earth days, yet the moment it was spoken it was FULFILLED….
For example:
Behold, it is coming, and it will be done, says the Lord Jehovah. This is the day of which I have spoken. Ezekiel 39:8
So then…. this invitation to “Wait” upon the Everlasting God is really an invitation to “time-travel”, if you will….in the sense that when you come to meet with the One who inhabits all of eternity, “the Everlasting Father” and you find out that His Only Begotten Son is the Alpha Beginning, as well as the Omega End, you also realize why we have to get on His time, for “NOW FAITH IS”….and every spirit that is of God confesses that Jesus Christ “IS COME in the flesh”….for “the spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus Christ”.
Dear friend, Just Be, if i may say, here is the context given for “they that wait upon the Lord (Yehova)”….For the Experience promises to be One that will lift our spirits with WINGS AS EAGLES ! : )
Isa 40:28 Have you not known? Have you not heard, that the everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not grow weak nor weary? There is no searching of His understanding.
Isa 40:29 He gives power to the weary; and to him with no vigor; He increases strength.
Isa 40:30 Even the young shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall;
Isa 40:31 but those who wait on Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Much love to you and to all : )
It’s hard to be totally clear with this question because the times I’ve experienced another level of awareness, at least ones that are markedly different from “ordinary” have been short.
In ordinary human consciousness, “time” appears quite choppy – it varies a lot from one moment to the next, according to our experiences.
One whole level deeper, you feel a great depth within. During these moments outside “time” doesn’t seem to matter. It is hard to find a reference point for time there. The feeling of depth is overwhelming.
Sadly, I know very little about either time or awareness, but I have noticed that time speeds up amazingly as one grows older.

yesterday at school, I realized how fast I’m always walking around school. I came to the conclusion that I must be walking so fast to make the day go by quicker. make sense? is this what you were asking for? lol
i would question the human minds ability to accurately perceive the passage of time i myself have deceived myself into thinking that i perceived time differently but in retrospect that was all probably due to changes in brain function
have you ever heard time flies when your having fun? well that may be because when your having fun your brain works harder and faster etc.
There is an immense amount of obscure writing in connection with words such as spiritual, consciousness, God, and death. However, most of us come back to the fact that everyday life confronts us with the most observable experience of reality that we have. Fortunately, if we carefully examine what we experience every day, much of the mystery surrounding the words mentioned disappears.
Time does not exist in the physical realm it can not be measured. You can perceive time passing by watching the seasons but watching a clock is not time itself. That is why a second can seem like a life time and a life time can feel like a second.
We have two notions of time : ‘intrinsic time’ and ‘extrinsic time’. The latter is ‘relative time’ and the former, the ‘absolute time’. Subject’s intrinsic time is sensing of the rate of its corporal evolution. Since essence of corporal evolution is neural evolution, intrinsic/ absolute time may be deemed to be subject’s sensing of its neural evolution. This is the ‘time’ we experience. Clock time is the relative time that, if not correctly understood, subverts the notion of absolute time.
To understand ‘time experience’, let us say that one unit of neural evolution caused by a seminar on philosophy during a period that is reckoned as ‘one day’ by the sun clock gives the subject the experience of a unit of absolute time. During the same length of time thereafter, the subject would gather an experience of four units of absolute time if he could have the company of the lover to achieve four units of neural evolution. Thus two consecutive days have different flow-rates of absolute time and identical flow-rates of relative time. This is why many worthless meetings constitute a black day. When asleep or unconscious, the subject senses zero flow-rate of absolute time and infinite flow-rate of clock time.
Knowledge hierarchy constitutes of different levels of awareness that correspond to different levels of neural hierarchy. Thus neural evolution at higher levels of neural hierarchy ought to produce absolute time of greater magnitude that would be sensed as higher consciousness. In other words, degrees of consciousness correspond to varying flow-rates of absolute time that is really the theme of subject’s ‘time experience’.
We are trapped in time hands just in this world. There is no time when you are unaware. if you can imagine it.
If you are in pain, time feels slow. If you are in happiness, time flies.
Albert Einstein said: “Sit next to a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute. Sit on a red-hot stove for a minute, it seems like an hour. That’s relativity.”

Yes, time is said to slow down, speed up, stand still, flies, do all kinds of things. It speeds up it seems the longer you’ve been here, till when you get very old there’s only time to eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, take a bath and go to bed. I have experienced time slowing down twice, once when I got in a fight to get a girl out of my way who pushed an 8 year old girl off a 14 foot railing, so I could take the girl to the hospital…and time slowed down so much I saw every thought she had, every move she was going to make, and I knew exactly what to do to win the fight, and she was a very big girl, lol. Then, time was on my side! The other time time slowed down was on a LSD trip, and the whole trip seemed like many years, although it was 24 hours. You could see every movement, like someone putting their hand from their pocket up to the change deal on a payphone, like one little movement, and flashes of light comes out, and takes about 10 minutes of normal time just to get to the change deal. Time also seems to go much slower in grade school, especially where they use those big clocks, where it takes the minute hand an hour to go just five minutes!
