The black death nearly wiped out half of europe, during those times most people tended to try and stay alive than create mass works of art; economy was greatly affected also, culture in that period tended to be based around religious ideas ans topics also basic superstition; it wasn’t until the Renaissance that art and culture began to really develop.

The Black Death led to the end of feudalism, bringing people from agriculture into the cities. It weakened the grasp of the Church as a unifying force, and led to arts that were less religion oriented.
