Review by Theseus for Frontline: Harvest of Fear (A Frontline and Nova Special) (PBS)
Rating:
I was impressed by the thorough approach taken in this long (2 hour!) documentary. Given a choice between genetically altered food and pesticides what does one choose? Is the insistence on natural food the sort of luxury only the developed world can afford? How trustworthy is big agriculture? And why have the anti-genetic food movements resorted to scare tactics? A particularly well-done piece of journalism.
Anyway, here’s the official blurb: “Frontline and Nova explore the intensifying debate over genetically-modifed (GM) food crops. Interviewing scientists, farmers, biotech, and food industry representatives, US regulators, and critics of biotechnology, this two-hour report…explores the risks and benefits, the hopes and fears, of this new technology.”
