Question by enki: for Religious Fanatics these are TESTS, Cynics consider them PUNISHMENTS, while Mystics call them Karmic DEBT?
REALISTICALLY, how should we view our own MISFORTUNE… the ADVESITIES we all face every now & then?
is it something we need to PASS, BEAR or PAY FOR…
or is it something else?

when something bad happens, it’s just sin’s fault. God doesn’t bring us punishment at all, its just the consequences that come along for what we did.
What do you think? Answer below!
It is the journey. Whatever you call it and you create your own punishment. I met someone last night that startled me on philosophy. As much as we think we grasp something, there is always another view. It is the journey, but, understand it better than others….but, there is also the destination that you are going for that can bless/corrupt your journey…That’s what I learned last night…
Events are more or less random. We have the ability to affect how other people act towards us, but when “misfortune” happens, there is no purpose behind it. “Misfortune” isn’t even a valid concept. Things just happen, and we spin them however we want.
T each his own and I am my own individual so I will say that i view them as my scars or battle wounds, the wounds of life. things happen but it’s how you deal with them that counts. From the blows of misfortune I Sometimes I fall, sometimes I stay standing but either way the scar is there reminding me of life and the will to live. . I think it’s something I need to deal with .
Things happen. Some we call good, some we call bad and some we don’t call at all.
You left out the “r” in “adversities…”
Realistically, we should view misfortunes as…
The “hard” way to learn something…
Because for every “bad” thing we learned from…
There was an “easier” “good” way to learn the same thing…
But lessons learned from “adversities” usually make a stronger “imprint” on our psyche because negative and fearful emotions are typically much more powerful memories than those that were…
Positive and light-filled…
Whatever happens….happens. There is no divine intervention in life. You control your own fate.
We could also see them as the “gifts” which help us grow and become more happy through facing, bearing, understanding, overcoming, reflecting on them etc.
If GOD is LOVE, these misfortunes and adversities might be an expression of these love guiding us to our true potential. What would happen to us if we would not had any type of misfortune and adversities at all and our life would be always harmonious and easy? I think I would fall asleep and would not feel challenged to grow above my present stage.
I see them as something to grit my teeth and fix.
In a religious view, you should do all three. You need to learn to bear with what you (probably) have to pay for, then help pass it with God. It’s a “common” thing that helps my faith in God grow stronger.
In a nonreligious view, you should still do all three, except “pay for” could be less emphasized. As a human, we all need to learn to bear and live with our struggles, learn harsh lessons (pay for) or accept punishment from what we need to bear, and eventually pass it along to continue with our lives (note i didn’t say “everyday” lives. the event chould change your life, therefore giving it new purposes).
In general, the three things you said are typically the most common and biggest…though it can also be associated with pernament consequence, not having the ability to let it pass, or, going along with pernament consequence, not having enough will power or motive to even bear what we go through.
edit:
Enki, I don’t know if you got around to reading my personal ramblings, but after sleeping on it….what was I thinking?? :o|
Thus, I’ve deleted my first answer.
Suffice to say, I believe adversity is a tool by which one learns to develop inner strength and peace, regardless of circumstances.
May your adversities pass quickly and the best of love be with you. 🙂
Our misfortunes are life, it happens to everyone, life is not a bowl of happiness all the time.

I am not a religious Fanatic, or anything else, all I know is I believe God in his Infinite wisdom, gave us life, and reason, to see how we are going to manage that God, giving Life. If during our Lifetime, we take the wayward Path, then we should Bear the consequences of whatever it is we did.
Pass or pay for maybe means that we need to discover ourselves and become wise.
We have a mission in this life. We dont need to pay nothing, just focus in our mission and feel inside who we are, conscientiously.
From the variety of responses already given one could easily come to the conclusion that there is no one way, or right way of viewing our adversities. Given enough time and enough adversity, I’m sure additional imaginative responses would include the view that our misfortune is the covert work of some agency, ethnic group, political activity, carcinogen, global warming, liberals, conservatives and Canadians, etc.
At the very bottom of many lists, you might find somebody admiting that they were responsible for there own misfortune. It is not such a bad idea (assuming it is true), for at least there is then something that can be done about it.. If the Canadians are to blame, than it is likely to add to feelings of helpless distress. After all, what can one do about Canadians! (kidding).
Seriously, no one really sees the world exactly the same way. The meaning we give to each new event depends on who we are and by all the meanings we have given to previous encounters.
Whatever, each one of has done with adversity, it has helped us survive. Otherwise we wouldn’t be here, responding to this question. So whether it be seen in a religious context…a test…chance….karmic depth….or punishment or simply as bad luck, the best way to view it, is however it helps us get through the night, or eevn better- enriches us, teaches us, makes us better people, etc.
Personally, I think eveything is the work of alien cows (not such a bad idea to make a joke about it 🙂
