Label the foods, let the consumers decide. I am not pro, or anti GMO. I am merely demanding labels. Sorry for stuttering on my words, this is my first kind of video like this and that was precisely the reason I avoid such topics. Take a look at the notes I contructed: WHAT IS GENETIC ENGINERRING? -Manipulation and allteration of genes. Artificially copying a piece of DNA from one organism and joining this copy of DNA into the DNA of another organism. PURPOSE: – It allows genes from one organism to be inserted a cell of a different organism of a different species. Examples : Human genes can be inserted into bacterium. Himan genes can be inserted into cells from other animals. Bacterium genes can be inserted into plant cells. APPLICATION: Animal — sheep have been genetically modified to carry the gene for the production of a human blood clotting protein. This protein is then used to treat haemophiliacs. Plants — Genetically modified corn: Can resist infection by an insect European corn border. – Vitamin A in rice. Milions of people, especially in Asia. suffer from Vitamin A defficiency, which causes blindness. Rice, a staple part of their diet, does not produce Vitmain A. A gene from daffodils containning Vitamin A was inserted into rice grains which prevented blindess to millions of people. Bacteria — Bacteria-producing humulin, for insulin for humans for those with diabetes. ETHICAL ISSUES – GMO AS A FOOD SOURCE: Especially strong in the area of transgenic animals …

Incidentally, I can’t say I’m a fan of Monsanto – their seen as a bit of a bully, even in the science world. But please don’t mistake Monsanto’s business practice and lack of morals for genetic modification as a tool for increasing crop yield and increasing versatility of crops so that they can grow in different environments. This is a key issue in the welfare of the whole of the developing world and we can’t afford to have well-meaning but misinformed people fuck it up.

It won’t harm you to eat them in the same way that eating varieties of peas that have been bred to maximise their sweetness over centuries won’t harm you. It is exactly the same principle, only sped up. Please take the time to understand this. Perhaps enrol on a genetics course. It’s really rather interesting and you’ll see what GM really is.

I’m not having a go at anyone for being slow/thick/uneducated, but please allow me to correct some “facts” that have been asserted by other viewers of this video. I’d like to point out that whilst not being a professional scientist, I am studying natural sciences, including a lot (a bit too much at times, it feels!) about genetics at Cambridge University, where the boundaries in genetic research are pushed.

The problem we’re facing is that you can’t distinguish them from real, AND that they crossbreed with real tomatoes, eventually turning ALL tomatoes on the planet unfit for consumption.
This goes for soy and corn and the rest of our food as well, so we need to do anything possible to fight the manufacturers of these seeds, Monsanto first. Boycott anything that comes from this MONSter for starters.
Here’s a easy to understand fact about genetically ‘modified’ foods, as follows:
If you change the genetic make-up of an organism, any organism, then you create a new organism. It may resemble e.g. a tomato, but if the genome doesn’t match a tomato’s genome 100%, THEN IT IS NOT A TOMATO, so why would you buy it if you were specifically looking for (real) tomatoes?

I like genetically engineered food. I remember TacoBell used genetically engineered hard taco shells and these bitches in the US protested it. Now TacoBell’s new taco shells are not as flavory as the genetically engineered one. I prefer the genetically engineered food. Great video, Sean!

EXCELLENT! thank you for sending this video. .we all have the right to know what’s in the products we consume. I won’t buy products with certain ingredients even now, because of what I learned about low fat products.I bought a bag of fat free Lays potato chips and my throat became scratchy- then felt like it closed up, the stuff they replaced the fats with caused a bad reaction.

I really enjoyed this little video you have here, mate! I, myself, go both ways on the matter. As a Type 1 Diabetic, I am all for this genetic engineering, and I would say that I lean more towards the side of being for it! As you stated, it helps in the production of my all-important insulin. But, at the same time, I have to agree on the Ethics part of the matter. Nice job, though! 😀

Not to mention those trees are far more vulnerable to diseases (insect attacks, fungi, leaf viruses etc ), and they are easily brought down by strong winds because their wood is weak. So they gained one thing but they lost in other, many aspects.

For example in forests because the severe exploitation natural tree species were replaced to genetically made ones that grow a lot faster. The result was that those trees were indeed growing faster but their wood was much more poor, with lover quality. than the native species that they replaced. Why is that ?, because they forced those trees metabolism to do something unnatural, so they gained quantity but they lost a lot of quality.
It’s because living organism have something called metabolism. That means all the substances a living body contains are sintetised through a very complex process, that even 21 century science doesn’t understand at 100% Through genetic manipulation you can make a plant or animal to grow faster or make their bodies produce something else or something that exists but in more quantities but you lose control in other aspects.

@IrelandsPatriot it’s nice to see that there are some youngsters that care for something more than sex, fast cars, how many “friends” can be made in a week and other easy going things like that. Don’t take in serious those who mock you, some around here feel better just for saying “I disagree”, this way they feel smarter. About genetically manipulated plant/animal, it’s kinda obvious. Anything that it’s forced to grow faster, or to contain some elements that they usually don’t it’s not good.
