Change management – personality metamorphosis through the 3P model

Were you a prey to the very intimidating environment of your school as a kid on the very first day? Must have encountered a lot of adjustment issues whilst shifting to a completely new city to pursue further education? Major issue when entered a professional college from a graduate college via MBA. What is that one common factor in the above instances that binds all of them together? The answer is “change!” Life is an everlasting journey full of changes; changes that are sometimes perceived to be bad and sometimes assumed to be very good. One such change as cited above is that which is smelt in the area of persona renovation or personality transmutation. The corporate functioning is today faced with seemingly insurmountable challenge of having in hand more than it can handle, so they look out for people who can act as all- rounder contributing in each and every aspect of business. The bottom line today is that an individual needs more than just qualifications and knowledge which have become a necessity rather than being the competitive edge to make his presence felt in the corporate arena.

It is here that an individual’s personality plays a critical role in enabling him deal with unpredictable, demanding and ever changing corporate environment. The ability of an individual to think, communicate and act upon his ideas effectively has become the key factor in differentiating a good performer from an average performer. The idea is to make the incumbent more and more salable.

The concept that percolates through this endeavor is to dig into the areas that act as a bottleneck and then slowly moving to the phase that makes incumbent to not only take in the change but also reflect that through his behaviors. The first area that catches attention is the area of resistance. A change without a resistance is no change. Some of them go as follows:

Goal dilemma
Esteem dilemma
Heterogeneity of the mass that enters in terms of backgrounds, schooling, society, region to which they belong
Fear of facing the mass
Consciousness about the grooming and outfits
Poor body language
Fear of the unknown

The second area deals with in details, the challenges that a faculty who is involved in this area faces; in terms of the students’ unwillingness, their attitude towards the class, and also dealing well with the “side effects” as we can name them, who dissuade those who want to learn.

The final part of the three areas discussed above deals very meticulously with the 3 stages in the form of a solution to what we have talked about so far and is very judiciously named as

“THE 3P TRICKLE DOWN EFFECT” .It comprises of the basic three stages in the persona enhancement journey and is named after them as PRIOR STAGE, PRESENT STAGE and POST STAGE. A brief description of the three is given below:

THE PRIOR STAGE deals with the stage wherein the incumbents’ beliefs are being triggered and the status quo is challenged.

THE PRESENT STAGE deals with the scenario wherein ways to pull the attention of the incumbent towards the class is being dealt with.

THE POST STAGE deals with the implementation and diffusion stage of the lessons taught during this journey.
