Vanderbilt professor Owen Jones, who is one of the nation’s few professors of both law and biology, is leading the MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Law and Neuroscience. This team of researchers, from prominent universities around the county, is examining multiple effects of modern neuroscience on criminal law and trying to make neuroscience accessible and beneficial to America’s courtrooms. @AmanJohnK I’m not sure, what you do define “fulfillment” as?
@Richpence Sometimes you must know how something works, sometimes you don’t…with ourselves as humans, I think we have to understand ourselves fully to fully be fulfilled….we don’t have to master computers, or cars, but ourselves, we must….happiness is subjective, but fulfillment is not so much….it is the measurable things that make us MORE likely to report being happy, such as being in shape….this is not necessary nor sufficient, but it helps…feel me?
@AmamJohnK that is true that knowledge is power, but power is not always happiness. You must do what you love just because you love doing it. You don’t need to know how something works to know if you like it. if someone follows something that we believe is wrong but they are perfectly happy we shouldn’t try to stop them. Who are we to tell someone how to be happy?
@Richpence knowing Calculus didn’t really change algebra =) Trust me – simply doing is not enough to be happy or successful – understanding WHY is key …knowledge is power, meaning the more you understand something, the more likely you are to be successful….sure, you can know how to change a tire or oil…but the better autorepair person will be the person who truly understands WHY you need to do it….such is the same for someone who wishes to be happy.

@AmanJohnK but the brain isn’t something that we have a true understanding of, we have only just scratched the surface of how our brain really works. We still dont know the most important things about our brains.
@Richpence Having a true understanding is the only thing that makes one fulfilled – what if I just told you what to do? Eat your vegetables, don’t drink, work out, do your homework, try your best, go to bed early…guess what? none of that meant anything, and most people KNOW these things already…AmanJohnK is more about what stops people from doing things they know they should do…….
Is it really important for us to know exactly why we feel sad? Haha it is cool that you know all this stuff, but knowing how a watch works doesn’t mean that I can fix it :p

@AmanJohnK what i mean is when somethin gets me down it just motivates me to do more. for example when the wind starts to blow and things are gettin rough 8 out of 10 times i tough it out cuz i motivate myself to stay out to haul. even tho i am miserable i am also full of adrenaline and excoted. i guess the only thing that makes me miserable is when i get home and my joints are aching haha
