Question by Tori: What is the rating for the anime FullMetal Alchemist?
Hello! Right to the question! I know you have Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Does Brotherhood follow the manga more exactly or not? I’m only 14 and some people say that Brotherhood is more gory, I mean I could take Elfen Lied but Higurashi was too much! so how gory is Fullmetal Alchemist really?
Thank you for answering! 🙂

Go watch it. You will be fine. I was watching it when I was around your age. Just don’t start trying to Transmute stuff or Bring you dead mother back to life and you will be fine.
Its actual rating is:
Fullmetal Alchemist: PG-13 – Teens 13 or older
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood: R – 17+ (violence & profanity)…. But especially after the Dub it is much mider than that. It is much closer to PG-13 – Teens 13 or older. Proof: It aired on TV.
Brotherhood is the series that follows that manga exactly. FMA is the series that does not follow the manga exactly. Brotherhood is more gory… kinda, there is a little bit more blood. But as far brutal graffiti stuff .. I would say that it is about the same. I could explain in more detail, but not without giving out major spoilers. OH, no. FMA and FMAB aren’t even close to how gory Higurashi and Elfin Lied. Those two anime are more like Snuff films than actual anime. FMA and FMAB have the usual amount of stuff for an anime that is supposed to have “real world” rules. You’ll be fine.

Just a lot of fighting. Fighting=blood. Nothing to bad. I think it’s rated like 14+ or something like that.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood does follow the manga very closely (though I won’t say ‘exactly’, since there were small, irrelevant scenes in the manga that weren’t animated).
The first FMA was rated PG-13, while FMA:B is rated R (17+). I wouldn’t really say FMA:B is that gory, but there’s usually some blood in a fight (obviously), and of course there are a few scenes that show Ed without his arm or leg… but it’s much less gory than Elfen Lied.
You could take Elfen Lied?
Then I don’t think you’ll have any problems with FMA Brotherhood, it does have bloody scenes but not as much as Elfen Lied.
It’s rated 17+ I guess… According to myanimelist.com
But some sites rated it 13+… I suppose the 17+ rating is more accurate though.
And yea, brotherhood does follow the manga, unlike the first series which took a totally different direction in the story.
Brotherhood follows the manga. The 2003 show veers off and has its own ending.
I’ve only seen the 2003 show myself. It can get quite violent at times, but doesn’t hold a candle to Elfen Lied.
