Question by Christopher S: is it true that quantum physics has disproved materialism?
by materialism, i mean the philosophy of which previous science has so objectively clung to as their basis of interpretation, that says that all things, including mind and consciousness, which cannot be defined or identified by materialism, can only be matter—everything is matter and nothing is not.
also, if materialism is wrong, what exactly does this mean for us, non-scientists?

Just because there happen to be other things in our universe that are not strictly matter doesn’t mean that there is anything outside the basic laws of physics that run our universe. Quantum mechanics doesn’t say anything about consciousness suddenly being outside physics or anything along those lines. It’s easy to jump to conclusions about these things…but any conclusion that you jumped to is probably wrong.

It’s not strictly wrong. That said, if it was wrong…well, it would be interesting philosophically, but let’s just say that it sure as Hell wouldn’t suddenly prove any ancient religious texts right, if that’s what you’re getting at.

No, definateley not true
No.
Even so, consciousness is the only real miracle.
As a scientist, I understand the mind is produced in a brain which is materially real.
Yet, the feeling shared in a poem is a reality and perhaps quite irreducible.
Quantum mechanics is only useful to understanding the dynamics of molecules and their chemistries. In fact there is a correspondence principle which puts limits on the accuracy of newtonian mechanics. Quantum mechanics is more accurate on the scale of molecules.
If a feeling could be reduced to some chemical process does that add to the meaning or value of the feeling.
If you know someone who is mentally confused by an intoxicant, you may not react appropriately to their feelings if you cannot understand that the mood is the result of some unbalanced chemical process.
