What is natural now….Vitamins…were part of a search in alchemy for an elixir of longevity. The bonding of tin and copper was a work of alchemy. It’s now called Bronze and a whole era is named after this alchemic mixture. Many things appear supernatural until accomplished and explained.

My level 40 dwarf priest is an alchemist. She can make these potions called “Elixir of the Mongoose.” It makes you run really fast for 10 seconds.
You lost an arm and a leg and trapped Al’s soul in that silly looking armor, isn’t that bad enough?
Well supposedly gunpowder was discovered by alchemy in china. Other than that, it really did not work, especially trying to discover how to make gold or immortality. Indeed most alchemists in recorded history were scam artists 🙂
The cover story is that an alchemist was searching for the secret to changing lead to gold. The real goal of alchemy was to change perspective, to see things from “outside” our normal perception. Early alchemists gave the cover story because if they told the truth, they would have been burned at the stake by the inquisition for witchcraft. The church leaders were so greedy, though, that the allowed alchemists to seek to turn lead to gold because then they would benefit with greater wealth.
This is gunna be a lame anwer to you i know, but alchemy isn’t good or bad by itself, just how it’s used.
Any chemical reaction can be considered a form of alchemy. From a car rusting to turning pig iron into steel, to making gold from lead (a process of removing one or 2 protons from lead; it is possible, but too expensive to be worth while in any sense) it can all be considered alchemy.
Drawing circles and doing summoning tricks are just silly, it doesn’t work outside of comic books. But if you want to turn berries into wine, you can easily creat a chemical reaction to do it.
