Question by Desiree: Is there an inherent weakness in humans that makes them fall for the lies and trickery of organized religion?
And do these religious organizations exploit this weakness for their own benefit? If these religious organizations cared for people, they would try to help them not be reliant on the lies and trickery of organized religion, wouldn’t they?

Yes, Yes, and Of Course…

One very smart person described religions as “exploits of unpatched vulnerabilities in the human mind”.
It’s called gullibility.
Humans fear death other animals do not because they are no Intelligent enough. Animals fear pain not death.
And this is why religion was created.
yeah preachers are the biggest hustlers. They sale a product that do not exist.
It’s centuries of lies and threats like ” you’re going to hell” and others. And also most people don’t search for the truth or question what they are told.
No. I just think people fall for Atheism out of ignorance.
Humans are inherently religious.
Yes, and that inherent weakness is the proof of God. Man’s search for a Divine, something which completely transcends his experience, and thus by all rights he should be incapable of even conceiving, shows that it exists, whatever its form.
The weakness is in believing the person who runs this world – Satan.
I call it love.
Religion, in its base form, is a byproduct of fear.
As long as people fear what they don’t understand we will have religion to comfort us and lessen these fears.
As long as we have people willing to be comforted we will have people willing to take advantage of them.
People in general re looking for a crutch to lean on . It is much easier for a person to say ” It is God’s will ” then to take the responsibility themselves .
Funny, I was wondering today if it had to do with hypnosis — making people believe in something that isn’t there . . . religious services seem to me to have a lot in common with trance and suggestion.
It’s not a lie… there is no trickery…
How do you care for other people? Certainly no evidence of it here from you.
People are gullible. especially when they hit rock bottom, say from drug abuse or something else, and instead of seeking nonreligious counseling to deal with their troubles, they latch on to religion because it’s easier to believe that a super bad guy messed up their lives than to face the fact that it was their own actions that got them where they are at.
I’ve seen a few friends who were swept up in religion after a stint with drug abuse and divorce.
Is it an inherent weakness on your part to be so obesessed with a belief that you think is a lie? What is really bothering you so much about people who have faith and believe in God? Do you feel a void in your life but just can’t come to accept that you need a Savior? I hope you come to know Him. He will change your heart and also your life.
Absolutely. Religion is comforting for people. People seem to take solace in believing, falsely it would seem, and against all reason and evidence that we go somewhere else when our physical bodies die. I think this lies at the core of religious belief. However, this doesn’t add whatsoever to its truth value.
No, Desiree, there is no weakness in being a part of an organized religion. Just because you lack the capacity to appreciate something, that doesn’t mean it’s bad or evil if someone else does.
And I hope you never find yourself in the position of choosing life or death for yourself or someone else and the only option is a Catholic hospital. What are you going to tell the paramedics? “No, I’d rather let my mother die than be treated by those tricky lying Catholic doctors and nurses.”
I’m willing to bet the contents of my checking account that you’d be able to put aside your hatred of organized religion if the only other option was watching a loved one die.
It’s simple: Humans are corrupt beings. They need security, and sometimes they find it temporarily in some false religions which pretend to care for an individual. The corruption of these false religious organizations is just another point that backs up the fact that humans are naturally sinful. Not all religious organizations are corrupt. If you want security and pastors or elders that will care for you, try attending a PCA (Presbyterian Church of America) church. i can guarentee you’ll find security there.
Yes, you are absolutely correct. The problem is, all three monotheistic religions are perpetrating lies. There is no such thing as a transcendent monotheistic “being” called God…no such entity exists.
Read the book titled: The Demise of Christianity.
First, you need to know that not all religions are acceptable to God. He showed that at Mark 7:6, 7 that regardless of whom a group “profess” to worship, if they hold doctrines of men instead of the inspired word of God, their worship is in vain. Romans 10:2, 3 says that even though people have Gods written word, if they dont have acurate knowledge, even if they think they are doing what is right, their worship of God may not be acceptable. So the things that you speak of like the lies and trickery would not be acceptable to God. You need to make sure that what your religion is teaching is from the Bible and not just what someone is telling you their idea of what something says.
Define “weakness.”
There is an inherent quality of man that allows him to be at once perfectly rational (when I touch the fire, I get burned: therefore, I will not touch the fire) and perfectly irrational (an invisible, all-powerful being is willing to grant petty favors for me, in particular, despite that millions of other praying people throughout the world are starving and dying).
This allows him to do things that have no logical benefit for him or logical basis, which in many ways is the glue of society. Why do people do nice things for others, even if no reward comes to him? Why do soldiers sign up for war and give their lives for others, which not only fails to benefit them but removes them from existence entirely?
It’s an open question as to whether this “religion” instinct is not part of an evolutionary adaptation that, on the whole, benefits humanity — if channeled properly.
you are right humans want to believe that they will live forever and they won’t really die its just too much for them to take so organized religion plays into that weakness and exploits them in every way they can and they can’t be swayed from that belief they need that crutch which is why its pointless to try to show them evidence that contradicts their belief in gods existence they blind themselves to any facts you have they will start quoting passages from their beloved bible that shows you supposedly that their god exists I have never seen one yet who could be” shown the light “so to speak
The answer is yes for all “works” religions, and it is inherant sin.
All religions are works religions, but the Christian religion. In the Christian religion humans “fall” for the truth of Christ’s redemptive salvation. Read about Cain and Abel – one came by his works, the other with a blood sacrifice (denoting Christ), and works was rejected. Jacob and Esau – God chose Jacob over Esau (Jacob was more sinful, in the beginning, of the two). Hosea and Gomer – Hosea as Christ – Gomer as the ransomed. The dry bones – They understood nothing of Ezekiel’s prophecy until the wind (Spirit of God) blew on them. Israel in Egypt – “When I (God) see the blood, I’ll pass over you”. etc – all through the Bible Christ is prophecied. Psalms 22, Isaiah 53 are good examples.
God bless you.
