Question by Gilrandir: How could I learn about levels of presence of global consumer brands in poorer countries?
Hello,
I am interested in learning about the distribution of global consumer brands in poorer countries.
Initially, I am interested in learning about what countries have particularly limited presence of global brands,
and what countries have relatively high levels of presence of global brands (both in terms of
breadth and magnitude of the presence).
Additionally, I am interested in learning about the positions of several specific countries in this context: for
the present, Haiti and Uganda. I would like to find information regarding relative magnitude of the presence of
specific brands in these countries as well.
If you would be able to suggest places for me to start, I would appreciate any such suggestions. If you have
corresponding information that you could share, I would appreciate any partial answers to these questions, whether
detailed or not.
Thank you.

Hi there,
Have you considered the CIA World Factbook? They may have some information about the economies and industries of countries you are looking into.
You may also want to check out on World Bank statistics on the level of globalization of developing countries (in terms of level of foreign investments).
Also, what global brands are you looking into? What kind of companies? If you mean ‘Big Multinational Corporations’ when referring to ‘global consumer brands’ you may want to visit each of their individual websites and see whether they have information about the size of their markets in developing countries. I know Brazil, Russia and China have McDonalds’ branches and information about the number of branches and market sizes – go to the McDonalds’ website to find out.
Brands you may be interested in are : General Motors, General Electric, Microsoft, HSBC, Apple, Addidas/Nike, Billabong, McDonalds’, Starbucks, etc. You can find the names of these big multinational companies in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
Just google them and you will find what you’re looking for.
What do you think? Answer below!
Look out for Angola. The fastest growing economy in Africa and going through a development era. They been having all types of investments, from banks to hotels and everything else you can think of.
The chinese, portuguese, french, english, americans, brazillians are the majority of foreigners investing there.
You will be amazed with their growing economy, remember that they have been through a war period recently.
