Physicist Richard Feynman tries to explain to a non-scientist just how difficult it can be to answer certain questions in lay terms! A classic example of Feynman’s clarity of thought, powers of explanation and intellectual honesty – his refusal to ‘cheat’. From the BBC TV series ‘Fun to Imagine'(1983). @11DNA11 i love him, he’s so amazing!
@Ashitaka255 these scientist are getting me pissed >:/
he isn’t the best teacher.
Why didn’t he just say “Pass! next question”
@Ashitaka255 every atom is a magnet, they are out of order in most particles hence the field cancels out, whereas in the magnets the atoms act exactly like small magnets (if you align few small magnets you end up with a stronger one).
The question about ‘action at a distance’ still remains little understood, I think quantum mechanics explains it through smaller particle theory
@atourdeforce
I completely agree!
@LovelesEntertainment Ah, I see. Was missing the context there. Thanks for the enlightenment.
@hwieldr
Fucking magnets, how do they work? and I dont want to hear it from a scientist they’re lying to me and getting me pissed. Google fucking magnets for context.
@LovelesEntertainment Why would you say scientists are lying to you? I’d say they’re in general less likely to lie to you than other people, since the truth is the basis of their jobs and since they should generally have no reason to lie about anything (their aim is (should be) to uncover the truth and make it known, and nothing else).
In this specific case your accusation is really unfair, since the explanation in the movie is the most honest thing I’ve ever heard!
I dont want to hear it from a scientist. They are lying to me and getting me pissed.
@TheOrphanStomper watch the next part
That’s all very good Mr Feynman but how do magnets work?
it breaks my heart he has passed. ive soo many questions to ask him, and if you really listen, he makes it so you ask loads and loads more questions, im convinced he does this because if you are able to understand something a little bit more to be able to ask new questions you ultimately garner more information.
what a fun a genius way of teaching and to realise that hes teaching knowingly and not subliminally is even more genius!!
@CalebTheGuitarist Have you allready learned that Evolution doesnt mean
“all of a sudden everything is just here” ??
“answer me this: what is gravity? can anyone actually explain what gravity is? we know theres an existing force that we call gravity, but WHAT IS GRAVITY?”
You seem to have very limited knowledge about many things…
I dont know but…. have you ever tryed to read a book or an article about the topic ??? Gravity is a well known and understood force.
Gravity is a force “produced” by objects with high mass and it attracts other objects.
So what do you mean with “what is gravity” ???
@CalebTheGuitarist That’s a fairly narrow minded approach. There are two concepts that one can’t grasp, therefore Evolution is a stupid idea? I suppose you could put together an argument on the principle that we don’t -really- get it all (yet?) and question a variety of things as a result, but not in such a naive manner, lol.
-blink-
no one knows why magnets repel or attract. zomg you can’t answer that
@potsdogho lol… well excuse me. you wouldnt want to come to that realization now would you. that would force you to live life no longer the way you wanted to now wouldnt it…
😉
@CalebTheGuitarist fucking creationists
herpaderpderp
@CalebTheGuitarist So in your uneducated mind, the theorie of evolution means:
“all of a sudden everything is just here” ???
the good “bad analogy guy”
@CalebTheGuitarist How did you jump from asking ‘what is gravity and electromagnetism’ to rebuking the theory of evolution? And saying “all of a sudden everything is just here” is completely contrary to evolution. All of the different forms of life we see today are the results of millions of years of evolution.
answer me this: what is gravity? can anyone actually explain what gravity is? we know theres an existing force that we call gravity, but WHAT IS GRAVITY?
its not anything physical. so what is it? same thing with magnetism. what is it? When you really think about, the idea of evolution is the stupidest idea ever put together. its literally IMPOSSIBLE for evolution to be possible.
all of a sudden everything is just here? lol…
When you explain things with “Why” you have to be in some framework that you allow somethings to be true. -Richard Feynman.
