When science majors require computer science, they’re usually expecting you to learn how to program. Knowing how to program in some computer language (C++, Perl, etc) can allow you to model systems, work with large data sets, run statistical tests, reduce and analyze data, and much more. It’s often recommended for any science major to take a programming class.
