Question by Anteater: Why does an unfit person breathe faster than a fit person, even when not exercising?
I’m just analysing graphs for my biology h/wk and it’s not a question on the paper, but I’m just wondering why an unfit person breaths faster than a fit person?
Thanks,
~Mystic.

maybe because there not used to that cardiovascular workout that a fit would be. the body has to work harder the heart has to pump quicker
Give your answer to this question below!
They’re circulatory system is not as efficent, therefore they need to breath in more readily in order to exchange gases at a rate which meets the needs of their body.
Well think about it this way. A truck needs more tune ups than a small car does. So when a person who is unfit is breathing faster, their cells are demanding more oxygen because they have more cells in their body.
Let’s break down how that works in more detail. We know that all of our cells contain organelles via the Endosymbiotic theory. These organelles are called Mitochondria. Mitochondria need oxygen in order to make [A]denosine [T]ri [P]hosphate or ATP. For this reason, whenever an unfit person needs to metabolize something, they need oxygen in order to use the ATP that will be made at the end result to digest food or perform other bodily functions.
In essence, unfit people will tend to be more tired. When you are yawning, that is your body attempting to get more oxygen to stay awake. Rapid breathing is almost always because the demand for oxygen is very high and at a constant rate. So if you are analyzing a graph and the trend line for a fit person is lower than the unfit person, it is probably because of physiological changes such as the blood vessels being blocked, having poor circulation and having a heart muscle struggling to pump blood to the body brain and itself.
Another thing with the heart muscle is that since it struggles to pump blood, the brain gets less oxygen, so naturally, the brain begins to think hm…the heart doesn’t seem to be doing its job efficiently, so let me rise the blood pressure [another affliction of being unfit] and increase the respiratory rate so that I can get blood faster to not only me but to the rest of the cells that keep begging me for oxygen !
But yes this is probably the analysis of your trend lines and curves and I hope that I have been a help.
