Brotherhood is supposed to stick to the original manga better. I assume it will also end as it should have (which I never finished the original series, or read the manga, so I’m not sure how that is).

Fullmetal alchemist Brotherhood – follows the manga original
Fullmetal alchemist – does not follow the manga but also added two new characters <-- i just know two since i just remember them.
FMA brotherhood just sticks more with the manga than FMA
like everyone says the main difference is that brotherhood follows completly the manga, the first series only follow the manga till volume 11 or something. Not to forget, completly new audio/video.
Fullmetal alchemist is the original series. It has been completed and has 51 episodes, a movie, and is dubbed. Around episode 35, it went astray from the manga, and so the whole rest of the series has pretty much just been made up by the anime company. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is another attempt by that company to stick to the manga more closely. It has only about 13 subbed episodes so far, and the drawing style has changed a bit. They have also left out a lot of parts as well as added a little bit more information than in the original series. Right now, it’s just a quick recap of things we already knew in the original. Most of the people watching Brotherhood are fans who have finished the original, and so the creators don’t want them to be bored. Episode 14 is supposed to take off and tell us some completely new things.
