Question by mattie_j37890: What education is needed to get a PhD in neuroscience?
I am seriously thinking about majoring in neuroscience (double major with music performance), and I was just wondering what all you do in college. How many years and what the salaries can be and what kind of jobs I can get with a PhD in neuroscience. If you can also answer the same questions about music performance that would be great too! Thanks! =)

For salaries, that depends a lot on you. Some things to increase your salary could be doing internships and research that helps you get connected with the outside world.

There are many things you could do with neuroscience. At the bachelor’s level you may be able to get the same job as anyone with a liberal arts degree. Especially sales jobs in the medical / drug field.

At the graduate level you can get a PhD in neuroscience and do research or marketing. Or take another path to become a neuropsychologist, become a psychologist, become any type of doctor, become a researcher and/ or professor, etc. You do not have to decide your whole future now! But it helps to create a roadmap which you can revise as you go.

Look at the requirements for a BS in neuroscience. The degrees I have seen have required at a minimum: Chem, organic chem, calculus, biology, and others. Those are not too easy!

I would choose one of these as your major and another as your minor. Having a minor in music performance can help you do research on music and teaching methods as it relates to learning.

If your major is music performance then a minor in neuroscience might help you be a better teacher or understand your learning process better.

You can also branch out and become an occupational therapist or something. I bet a lot of patients would like to learn an instrument as part of their therapy. Be aware that this is difficult to achieve though because you would probably need your own office that specializes in this approach.
