Question by spookyooky: I want to get a head start in 11th grade by taking Applied Physics before Physics in 12th grade?
By removing Forensic Science and replacing it with Applied physics then I would be able to get a head start in learning Physics before everyone in 11th grade. Because Physics is SUPER hard to learn in 12th grade and by taking applied Physics you can learn the basics.

Then in 12th grade I will take Physics and it would be a little bit easier to learn.

Is this a good idea and will college shine upon this?

It should’nt be a problem, I know a lot of kids that do that here in AUS but it may not be exactly the same where you are. Just ask.

It depends based on your preference. If you want to have a foundation and know the basics of physics for next year, then you can do that. Some colleges, especially very selective ones, want students to take a rigorous schedule and take as many hard (honors/AP) courses as possible. If you want to go into a selective college, you shouldn’t take Applied Physics, but a different level. If your school has an Honors or AP Physics course, then take that. But, if you feel the need to prepare yourself a year before, then do that. I hope this helps.

Question by Anna: I am taking neuroscience this semester and I failed my midterm exam because I crammed the night before.?
I am so embarrassed. I am really interested in doing research in neuroscience. I’ll try to get an A on the final. Would my professor allow me to volunteer in his lab if I get a low grade in the course? I’m scared to talk to him about it.

Try to create a relationship with this professor, so he knows who you are beyond this exam grade. So for example, after you get this exam back, go to his office hours and review it with him, and tell him how embarassed you are about how you did. Then every three weeks or so, go to his office hours again and ask him a question related to one of his lectures, or to one of the chapters.

You’ve learned something about study skills from all this, so fix the issue for your final exam, ace it, and then go talk to him about volunteering in his lab. By then, he’ll know you, he’ll know you’re a concientious student, and that this mid-term was an anomaly.

Question by chloe: if I avoid taking Physics in highschool, would my changes of getting into a good college be limited?
I’m not the best at math, and I heard physics is mostly based on math. My plan is to take all other science classes except for physics; anatomy forensic..etc . I was wondering if that would affect my chances of getting into a competitive college?

No. You don’t have to take physics. Take an advanced course, but it doesn’t have to be physics.

Question by Ryelle P: How can I do it without him taking advantage of me?
I love my sweetie and want to make him happy. He reads the Bible often and wants a submissive wife. I am a very kind hearted, giving person. I like to take care of people (I am in the medical field) But I am afraid that if I adopt the “serve him” mentality, he take me for granted or use me? How can I be a “good Biblical wife” without being taken advantage of?

What occurs to me is what improvements are needed so that this won’t happen again. Do you mean that you were slacking off until the night before? If you do, I hope that from now on you’ll study at a steady pace throughout the semester, which is the way to learn. I’ve spent a lot of time researching study skills, and I might be able to give you some useful advice.

Sometimes, slacking off is a sign of depression. You can take a screening test like the CES-D online for free. You might want to talk with a counselor.

The courses that are all memory are the easiest ones. The most powerful memory tool is the flashcard. It doesn’t make you spend too much time on things you already know. Also, it makes little time periods like doing the laundry and waiting for the bus useful instead of wasted. The basic drill is to review the cards again and again, then test-and-sort. While you test yourself, sort the cards into a “right” stack and a “wrong” stack. Keep working on the wrong stack until you get all of them right. When you’re done, you should be able to go through the entire set of 100 or so cards and get each one of them right. If there is a lot of memory needed for a course, take all your lecture and reading notes and make them into a composite outline, then turn the outline into a set of flash cards, That way, whenever you see a test question, your mind will go instantly through your memory of the outline like when you’re searching with Google.

You can read about study skills in your library and on the internet. I would look for books by college instructors, especially in Education and Psychology, like The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Study Skills. On the net, see which topics come up again and again.
