Question by Camisha: What are some choices for majors in college since I aspire to be neurosurgeon?
I aspire to be a neurosurgeon but not all colleges offer neurosurgery or neuroscience as a major. Including these what are some choices I have as a major to be a succesful neurosurgeon.

Answer by eri
Not all colleges offer neuroscience, but no colleges offer a neurosurgery major. Major in anything and take the premed classes in bio, chem, physics, math, and English. Keep your college GPA well over 3.5 and do very well on the MCATs. Med school is another 4 years after that, followed by 5 years of general surgical residency, followed by 5 years of fellowship in neurosurgery. This will be at 4 different schools/hospitals so you can start at any 4-year college or university.

Question by Insallah: Since we can kill and take the consciousness of animals away isn’t that proof there is no afterlife?
If we can just kill a fly or put a dog down, and they have whatever is thing is that we call consciousness like us, then isn’t that proof of no afterlife.

Cause if they dont go to an afterlife when they die, and they have the same bodily functions as humans, then doesn’t that mean no one does? And just because humans can imagine an afterlife, doesn’t mean there is one?

Question by Gabe: Since atoms are 99.9% empty space, is reality just a hologram?
I read a message my friend got from one of hers and it really got me thinking about this. This is what his messsage read, is this true?

“Reality is a hologram

Believe it; nothing is really solid or even real for that matter. An atom is 99.999999% empty space which means that the known universe is entirely empty space and no 2 objects ever really touch each other. It’s just the electromagnetic fields that connect together. Quantum physics and philosophy are becoming strikingly similiar; the factor missing to connect the two is consciousness. That’s the constant factor that quantum physicists are leaving out of the equation.”

So is it true, we never really touch anything, everything is caused by electro fields running into each other?

Pretty much so. If you exert enough force to cause electron degeneracy, the characteristics of ‘mass’ get really weird (as in the interior of a star or a black hole). A couple of friends of mine do ‘condensed matter’ and it’s pretty interesting.
If you want to find out a bit more about the current state of research into ‘consciousness’ (which is the area I’ve been playing in for the last 15 years or so) go check out:

http://consciousness.arizona.edu/

and if you’re looking for info on the relationship(s) between ‘consciousness’ (whatever in the hell -that- is) and quantum mechanics, look at:

The U of A is almost in my backyard (I live in Tucson) which makes involvement in this area exceptionally simple for me ☺

Question by Nathan V: How Has Exorcism changed since it originated?
How has exorcism changed since its medieval origins? If we put aside the possibility of real demonic possession (as social scientists) what social and personal factors might explain the popularity of exorcism today?

Best answer:

Answer by Peggy
im not sure.demons do exhist and they still can harm us today.
people are afraid and there are recent documented cases on posession in present time, and demonic opression is widespread.

i do know that just describing a posessed person can seem simillar to a drug addicted person or a neurologically sick person, but there is a big difference.
