Question by irishumanist: Is the search for REAL answers to life’s mysteries more gratifying than simply blindly accepting ancient dogma
Is there anybody else who feels an absolute joy and sense wonder and fulfillment when learning about the true scientific reasons for the how the universe and everything that is in it came to be ?

Do you feel an immense sense of wonder and amazement when you contemplate the sky at night and marvel at all we have learnt about our orgins and existance and all that there is still to know ?

Finally do you think that this joy and wonder is far superior to simply accepting ancient dogmatic myths as a way of explaining the world around us

Question by : Is alchemy real? Like from Fullmetal Alchemist..?
I’ve recently been really into the Fullmetal Alchemist anime.. And I just finished the series.

Is there any way that alchemy is real? Like I feel this is a really stupid question.. but witchcraft and those things are real.. So couldn’t alchemy be real too?

I have no interest in trying to use it or anything.. I’m a Christian.. I was just wondering.

Question by Astone: in real life can alchemy only be used 4 turning stone into gold or can it be used like in Full Metal Alchemist
also/or can you tell me how to BECOME an alchemist?

Best answer:

Answer by bugsie
In real life IF alchemy could be used to turn rock or medal into GOLD, then every one would be an Alchemist.
The truth is that it is a marvelous fable, like Robin Hood, or Atlantis the lost city, or The Holy Grail!
In the 21century, any one can with good grades and the will power go to a private or State University and major in some Chemistry field, this will qualify you to call your self an Alchemist, which is only the mid evil term for Chemist.
I have taken college chemistry courses out of need, I hope if you enjoy chemistry you take them out of want for a better future for you and the people you can potentially help by becoming a chemical engineer or a pharmacist etc.

Question by Artisticat: If a NECROMANCER were real, or even asking about them in books and games, what GOOD could they bring?
I’ve only read of the destruction they can bring, and I am unsure if there is any good that could come from necromancy.
Xenon and Romantic… That’s not exactly answering the question. You fail. :( Thanks though.

Best answer:

Answer by XenonVortex BlackOp Death Eater
Usually they’re portrayed as evil sorcerers who do all kinds of creepy dark magic like raising dead corpses and that sort of stuff. By definition, a necromancer is usually involved in dark magic, so I’m not sure how there could be a “good” necromancer.

EDIT:

Oh really? Well, then excuse me, I’ll try again if that wasn’t good enough. All I’m saying is that it’s described as the “blackest of black arts”, so nothing good would really come out of it. Unless, they summon spirits to give messages to people. And to be fair to Romantic and I, your question is kind of confusing. Not all necromancers are destructive, some of them make a profession out of communicating with summoned spirits and that sort of thing.

Question by Report Monkeys sck: Seriously speaking what is the real reason for the Thanksgiving holiday ?
“The first official ‘Day of Thanksgiving’ was proclaimed in 1637 by Massachusetts Governor John Winthrop. He did this to (1) celebrate the safe return of Colonials from near present-day Mystic, Connecticut, where they (2) massacred 600 Pequots that had laid down their weapons and accepted Christianity. They were rewarded with a vicious and cowardly slaughter by their new ‘Brothers in Christ’. We’ve gone about creating more enemies than we can kill, ever since. Eat well tomorrow, folks – but remember what you’re really celebrating.”

So we can eats lots of turkey, mashed taters, and corn on the cob, drink some beer and take a nap on the sofa.
