Question by Squashed Orange: Was Jesus a mystic? He willed life into people just like a mystic? He told religious mysteries (parables)?

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/mystic

mystic
–adjective
1. involving or characterized by esoteric, otherworldly, or symbolic practices or content, as certain religious ceremonies and art; spiritually significant; ethereal.
2. of the nature of or pertaining to mysteries known only to the initiated: mystic rites.
3. of occult character, power, or significance: a mystic formula.
4. of obscure or mysterious character or significance.
5. of or pertaining to mystics or mysticism.
–noun
6. a person who claims to attain, or believes in the possibility of attaining, insight into mysteries transcending ordinary human knowledge, as by direct communication with the divine or immediate intuition in a state of spiritual ecstasy.
7. a person initiated into religious mysteries.

Doesn’t that describe Jesus?

Well, it seems that the Bible miracles aren’t happening, but the transfer of energy among all life is happening. When someone put his hands around my heels once, my heels started to get very warm as if they were on fire. This was about 20 days after Yoga already took the soreness from my legs. The man (healer?) told me my leg just grew out at the same time. That took place at some church service starring Dan Mohler. I didn’t see it grow out, but I also didn’t have a good angle of viewing. What do you think that miracle was? An act of God, of course. But how did it happen is the question. Perhaps it happened the same way that Yoga transfers energy. So is Reiki and miraculous healing the same? Why do I hear all these rumors of different spirits and that even the evil ones can heal? Then is it better to never want to heal people because of the risk that we might just heal by using an evil spirit disguised as an angel of Light? Were the 11 apostles who healed mystics then? Then Paul showed up after the ascension — was he a mystic? A mystic “wills” life back into people and “wills” others to be healed.

Question by mobeks: got into UCLA neuroscience and Berkeley College of Chemistry. Please help me pick.?
This is for undergraduate programs at those colleges.

UCLA pros: I am strongly passionate about neuroscience, so this seems nearly perfect
con: Very far from where I live, (8 hours at least!)

Berkeley pros: It has greater, however slight, prestige.
It has the number 1 (or really really close) chemistry program in the world
It is fairly close, which means i can drive home and see my family every(other) weekend

Please explain why I should pick your suggestion. If you pick Berkeley, do you think that going there will allow me a better career in neuroscience(because I’m assuming I’ll be pretty well equipped chemistry or chemical biology-wise)
1 hour ago – 4 days left to answer.
Additional Details
Not going to Berkeley seems like a waste, especially because of how hard it is to get in there and get acquainted with such a prestigious environment(would provide me contacts, etc. which would be great for future careers)
I plan to go to medical school

You are passionate about neuroscience, so you are more likely to be an outstanding star of the program at UCLA. Are you aiming for medical school or a PhD?

Distance from your family of origin should not be a primary factor since you will be growing and changing more than you can predict now in the first years of college.

Question by Astone: in real life can alchemy only be used 4 turning stone into gold or can it be used like in Full Metal Alchemist
also/or can you tell me how to BECOME an alchemist?

Best answer:

Answer by bugsie
In real life IF alchemy could be used to turn rock or medal into GOLD, then every one would be an Alchemist.
The truth is that it is a marvelous fable, like Robin Hood, or Atlantis the lost city, or The Holy Grail!
In the 21century, any one can with good grades and the will power go to a private or State University and major in some Chemistry field, this will qualify you to call your self an Alchemist, which is only the mid evil term for Chemist.
I have taken college chemistry courses out of need, I hope if you enjoy chemistry you take them out of want for a better future for you and the people you can potentially help by becoming a chemical engineer or a pharmacist etc.

Question by gandalf: When meditating, how do you let yourself fall into a deeper state of consciousness, without realizing it?
When I feel myself falling into a deeper state of consciousness while meditating, I always end up thinking, oh I think I’m doing it, and then it takes me back out of that meditative state. How do I let myself fall into that state and then stay there, without thinking about it? They say observation is the nature of the self, but I having a tough time observing, without having thoughts accompany it.

Answer by nyx コト
Just let go of all attachments.. when thoughts come into your mind, you have to will yourself against them. “I should not be thinking right now” helps me snap out of that connection to the material world. Concentrating on your breathing is the easiest thing to do. In… out… feel the breath move through your body. Feel your feet on the floor, the air moving against your skin. Feel, don’t think. No one can MAKE you meditate.. you just have to figure it out for yourself. I hope this helped. :)

Question by Crazy Cupcake: About how long did it take turn wolves into chihuahuas?
Apparently all dog species came from wolves, so about how long did it take to turn wolves into chihuahuas?
Sharon, are you insane? And Cookie, how is it a question for Google? 99% of questions here can be answered on google but then this site would be obsolete! Also advising people to google the answer is against community guidelines so how about next time you leave that unnecessary comment out hmm?

Best answer:

Answer by Sharon
The same amount of time it you……. to turn from an ape into you.

Evolution is certainly not fast, in another 1,000 years your dog could have wings and take over from humans as the “Superior species’? Would be great for animals to have revenge on us who have abused them for do long…Karma!

magic, not insane but you do get some trolls on here..

Well evolution shows human ape like fossils dating back 600 -2 million yrs ago, with others found since showing the differences leading to our form today.

t’s known that dogs have been domesticated for quite a while, but it’s not all that clear how it originally happened way back in the beginning. The oldest known fossil belonging to a domesticated dog dates back to around 14,000 years ago. However, there is no actual fossil link between ancient wolves and the smaller dogs that were discovered from the same time period, lending some questions to whether these smaller dogs were domesticated wolves or a separate but related breed of animal. In fact, the origin of dogs (not wolves) has been quite a mystery. There are theories that man took wolf cubs from wolves and domesticated them anywhere from 10,000 years ago to 140,00 years ago but the exact time frame is still unconfirmed.

Although the subject continues to be controversial, most authorities now agree that all dogs, from chihuahuas to dobermans are descended from wolves which were tamed in the Near East ten or twelve thousand years ago”. Which to me dosent seem to be a very long timeframe…evolution is amazing.

Question by : The ancient alchemists dreamed of being able to turn lead into gold.?
The ancient alchemists dreamed of being able to turn lead into gold. By using lead-206 as the target
atom of a powerful accelerator, we can attain that dream in principle. Find a one-step process that
will convert 206
82Pb into a nuclide of gold-79. You may use alpha particles, beta particles, positrons,
or protons. Write the nuclear equation to turn lead into gold.

Question by : What are the requirements to get into Harvard Medical School?
I’ve just finishing up my first year at UVa and have a 4.0. I’ve been taking many science classes, and plan on doing a double major of Biology and Chemistry. I’m also getting involved with a neuroscience lab that meets every morning. What are my chances?

Best answer:

Answer by PE2008
Pretty slim, because the competition is so fierce.

If you keep up the 4.0 GPA, and do well in the MCAT, you’ll probably get into at least one Medical School. But if you don’t get into Medical School you will regret Majoring in Biology and Chemistry. Bioprocess Engineering or Chemical Engineering would be better.

I didn’t read your whole question, but try a mystic tan.
It’s safe, spray on, and normally looks pretty good.
