Question by : Is there a bridge being built between atheism and new form of theism?
Sir Roger Penrose (mathematical physicist and Emeritus Rouse Ball Professor of Mathematics at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford and Emeritus Fellow of Wadham College.,1988 Wolf Prize for physics) and Stuart Hameroff (anesthesiologist and professor at the University of Arizona known for his scientific studies of consciousness, and his theories of the mechanisms of consciousness) have been working together on a theory in which they claim consciousness is the result of quantum gravity effects in microtubules.

Penrose is a self-proclaimed “atheist”, while Hameroff believes that there is a proto-consciousness that pervades the universe and that our consciousness emerges from this.
please pardon the use of “new”

There really isn’t a ‘new form’ of theism — the ‘proto-consciousness’ idea has been around for a while.

And I’m not sure that this is a “bridge”, but rather an individual shared scientific journey. Atheists and theists are not always at odds, not even when it involves much heavier religions like Christianity (and in fact, a great number of scientists ARE Christian, since many forms of the religion actually allow of scientific thought).

Question by Camilla: When does a baby or unborn baby form its consciousness?
When do you think a baby forms consciousness and awareness? When does a baby in the womb start to feel stimulation and hear and is this consciousness? When do you think thinking begins?
I’m pregnant with triplets that I actually conceived naturally, a big surprise. I wonder if they are aware of each other too.

Not until they are 2 or 3.

Think about how stupid babies are until they are a few years old, no different than a dog, and we don’t ever say that dogs are conscious.

Question by livitup11: Is hypnotism a legitimate form of therapy?
I’m interested in seeing a hypnotist to help with my weight issues and possibly some other things. Is hypnotism legitimate? If so, how can I find a reputable one in my area?
I exercise regularly and I eat a balanced diet w/o purging or anything, however I DO have moments of anxiety where I binge to the point where my stomach feels fit to burst. This is why I believe hypnotherapy may be appropriate.

Question by Questions: If you do tarot reading, fortune telling or practice any form of divination?
I want to know how successful I’m going to be at this adventure that I’m planning…. If you can offer any hope, I think I would benefit from your council… The people who have the ability to help me are the ones who refuse to do anything for me.

I taught myself how to read tarot cards by using books, internet, other peoples advice, etcetera. Maybe you can do the same thing? Its not as good as learning from someone first hand but if you can’t find anyone its an option. I would try to teach you but I’m still learning myself. Good luck though.

Question by Kasia: What kind of geometry is used when objects in water stick out and form an illusion?
Sorry my question might sound a little confusing…
but what i mean is, say you have a reed in a pond. The part of the reed that sticks out above water looks straight, but the part that is underwater looks diagonal. A lot of straight things make this illusion when you put them in water, even a straw in a cup of soda.
What is this illusion called? and does it use any geometry?

Question by Spazzy- McGee: Is there any form of meditation that does not involve any sort of spirituality?
I’ve browsed a few books and a few things online about meditation, but most if not all of them in one form or another involve spirituality. For example, one source said to burn incense but not to look too long at it because the burning would taint your soul or something like that.

Do you have any suggestions about where I can look into meditation tips that focus relieving stress and increasing focus in a practical fashion as opposed to a spiritual one?

Question by doug: What is the best form of divination?
Does divination cause hauntings to occur in your house. I had a friend who told me it does.

Below at link is a list of just some of the many types of divination. These are really props for so called psychics. What is happening is randomness not predictions, since no event happens twice. None have any proof of doing anything, but who wants the truth here?

If you come back from it with a dream memory you weren’t really dead and if you don’t come back you can’t relate a near death experience.
