Question by Cade: What is a career in Neuroscience like? ANYONE with neuro experience please!?
What is a career in Neuroscience like? ANYONE with neuro experience please!?
IN CLASS what should I expect? A lot of reading? Memorization? Hands on? How many years does it usually take before you are in a lab and able to work on research? Is the field competitive? I want to do lab research. Is the pay good (although not in it for the pay) and finally how math heavy is it and what can I do now as a new college student taking basic classes to prepare myself?

Interested in neurophysiology branch
Sorry first half got cut off. Basically I said when I think of neuroscience first thing that comes to mind are those 3D animations you always see on tv shows.

I have no other real experience of working in a lab I never took those sort of classes in grade school.

I don’t know much about neuroscience, but I do know a few general things:

If you expect to do any kind of science-related research work, it will always be math heavy.

Biology is always especially heavy on memorization.

There really is no time requirement to start research. Since you’re in college, you can start research as an undergraduate through your college’s mentoring programs, various undergraduate research programs across the country, or by asking a professor. Afterwards, you can go to Grad school to do more research. After Grad school, you’ll probably do a postdoc or go into industry. If you’re really good, you can get hired by a university.

Question by Mawkish: Do you need consciousness to experience the will to live?
Do you need the will to live to experience consciousness?
I am very specifically talking about all life, not just humans or animals.

Best answer:

Answer by The One
NO. you need awareness. We are conscious throughout before and after death. But awareness only comes when exposed to contrasting qualities that forces your consciousness to react and learn.

Contrasting qualities of the spirit and matter gives rise to the soul’s awareness.

Question by : Every moment we experience a new universe in reality?
Every moment that passes the universe changes, the state of the universe is seemingly altered by time and therefore the present universe is virtually new with each passing perception, this fact leads me to believe that reality is similar to a motion picture in that each passing moment creates a distinguishably changed or different universe, I have a theory that each moment we perceive reality our consciousness enters the corresponding “potential” universe based on the circumstances resulting from our thoughts, decisions and actions. Reality ends up being the path our consciousness perceived in the multiverse. Im studying physics with the hope of somehow testing this theory and applying it to our theory of quantum mechanics, multiverse theory and the concept of ‘time’.

Are we all connected and part of one universal mind in one sea of energy?

Brain scientist Jill Bolte Taylor tells us in a powerful 20 minute speech how she came to understand how we are all connected in this universe of energy. One morning she was having a massive stroke and as it happened she could feel that her brain functions slipped away one by one and at the same time she was feeling and seeing all this energy around her. She felt enormous and expansive and one with the energy around her. This speech is powerful and Dr. Taylor tells us how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another.

Because everything in the Universe is composed of energy, and is therefore connected, each thought that you have has a direct effect on your physical reality. You may find this concept hard to accept at first, especially if it is new to you.

Our perception of “the universe” is never identical to past perceptions because each moment the universe changes, this is how were able to perceive “passing moments in time” and experience “consciousness” (life). The laws of physics stay the same, but the universe does not. Basically my theory says reality is a path through each sequentially relevant “parallel” universe.

I would say no since the universal laws of physics do not change.

So if you say every moment there is a new universe but it is identical to the old universe, isn’t that just the same as saying that every moment the universe stays the same!

You need to get a better grip on time, there is a reason it is called time/space, because it is not a constant. You are mixing up consciousness with physics I think :) You exist within the universe, on a linear path, for you, your reality is created by the second, built on by the past. The universe is not like you.

Question by Samantha Marino: What Is The Weirdest Super Natural Experience That Has Happened To You?
Like from ghost stories, to seeing a mystic creature possibly…like a unicorn, a banshee, wolves, mermaids, maybe a physic told you something and it came true. Or something in your religion that could happen has happened to you. Maybe dreamed of something and later it happened. You knew that something was to happen before it did.

I got my first hospital job by accident (I really didn’t have experience). I started out by volunteering in a local hospital. I randomly got assigned to the EKG department and liked the staff. A couple of weeks after I started, one of the employees quit to go back to school and the department manager approached me about applying to take the position. The rest they say is history…

Answer by Mariam … its winter finally!
to be honest, i was a little nervous as i was making such a big decision of my life… you know, the kind of nervous when you are waiting for your name to be called to honor you.
i had a HUGE smile on my face and teary eyes.
after reciting the Shahada, for the first time in my life, i wasn’t afraid to die.. there was a strange peacefullness in me =)
it was like, the thing that was missing in my life had been filled.. i felt complete.
are you planning to convert?
