Question by marshasaur: why is the great wall of china considered great when so many people died building it?
The Great Wall of Chine wasn’t built for the love of China or money.
In fact, slaves were forced to build it because of the fear of death
given upon them if they refused. If this is true, what makes the Great
Wall so great and honorable when millions of Chinese were tortured and
put to death to build it?

great wall- firstly..great means long, big, grand in size..manmade construction with stretches a vast area of land..
great- great historical value/ great way for us to know what hapened in the past…connection tot he Qin dynasty..connection to ancient chinese technology and science..great in terms it provide us..now…a key to life 2000 years ago and all those unsolved mysteries
great- in terms of the cost..it was really expensive and it costs lives…the emperor at the time was a bit coo-coo..he built the great wall (others contributed in the later dynasties) and the terrocotta warriors…
great- as a big tangible symbol of china being sheltered away from the rest of the world…a symbol of a dragon sleeping on the back of china
slaves were forced to build the wall and many died..win shihuang- the first emperor of china was an ambitious and cruel man…so..no surprise
I think you will find all things in history that are great, have had many people die to build it. Including the egpytian pyramids even empires such as the british empire have killed many people to gain what they wanted. The great wall is no different. I think you need to understand history a bit better and just enjoy the fact that it is still there for all to see.

Because it’s really a huge structure and it can be seen from space!! I have to admit The Great Wall is amazing and awesome eventhough I have been up there 3 times!!
Yes, many ppl died building it during Shi Huang Ti’s reign but then, most emperors in the olden days are cruel and only good for keeping thousands of concubines.
IT IS GREAT IS THE SENSE THAT SOMETHING SO GRANDIOSE COULD HAVE BEEN ERECTED BY HUMANS AND SO MANY YEARS AGO BEFORE THE MECHANIZATION AND ENGINEERING ADVANCES WE ENJOY TODAY. IT IS TRUE THAT THE BONES OF THOUSANDS OF SLAVES ARE INTERRED IN IT. THIS DOES NOT DETRACT FROM THE MAGNIFICENCE OF IT.
