Question by persiangurl!!!: Is the Latin King gang a subculture or counterculture?
Im doing a project in class and i cant really tell the difference between and subculture or a counterculture on the latin king gang.

Holy crap! I’m learning about the same thing in my class. You must be taking sociology or something.

I’d say Latin Kings or any gang for that matter are a little bit of both actually. But I think it’s more of a subculture than a counter culture because Latin Kings are mostly focused on being dominant over other gangs and obtaining money and all of that stuff. Their main focus isn’t really to rebel against society. It’s just that the stuff they do happens go against the laws of society so they may clash with the norms of society. But their main focus is not to rebel against society like a counter couture’s goals are. Latin Kings goal is to mainly show how tough they are and how they will hurt anyone who tryies to prevent them from surviving they only way they know how.

So really it’s a bit of both, but I’d lean more towards a subculture considering their prime focus isn’t society but rather their self and other gangs.
