Question by Automaton: A mystery! What are these spiritual early Christain quotes all esoterically referring to about male/female?
2 Clement, “Let us expect, therefore, hour by hour, the kingdom of God in love and righteousness, since we know not the day of the appearing of God. For the Lord Himself, being asked by one when His kingdom would come, replied, ‘When two shall be one, that which is without as that which is within, and the male with the female, neither male nor female.’”

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become *one flesh*” (Gen 2:23-24)

“Great is the mystery of marriage! For without it, the world would not exist” (Phillip Gospel).

106. Jesus said, “When you make the two into one, you will become children of Adam, and when you say, ‘Mountain, move from here!’ it will move.” (Thomas Gospel)

“When Eve was still with Adam, death did not exist. When she was separated from him, death came into being. If he enters again and attains his former self, death will be no more.” (Phillip Gospel)

Apply it within. Thoughts?

- Shalom.
“If the woman had not separated from the man, she should not die with the man. His separation became the beginning of death. Because of this, Christ came to repair the separation, which was from the beginning, and again unite the two, and to give life to those who died as a result of the separation, and unite them. But the woman is united to her husband in the bridal chamber. Indeed, those who have united in the bridal chamber will no longer be separated. Thus Eve separated from Adam because it was not in the bridal chamber that she united with him.” (Phillip Gospel)
22. Jesus saw some babies nursing. He said to his disciples, “These nursing babies are like those who enter the (Father’s) kingdom.”
They said to him, “Then shall we enter the (Father’s) kingdom as babies?”
Jesus said to them, “When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female, when you make eyes in place of an eye, a hand in place of a hand, a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then you will enter [the kingdom].” (Thomas Gospel)

This Tantra was/is practiced and with great results as it deals with the powerful sex drive. The female/male with their union achieve oneness with the divine nature of both, very blissful, it is hard to describe but can and is experienced by those who are ready. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. What is very sad is that the Goddess has been almost destroyed by western religions and in order for this Tantra the female *must* be worshiped by the male in their union, this is the fail safe for she holds the serpent power {Kundalini} at her base Chakra. She is the Sun and the man is the Moon, reflecting her energy through himself and back to her. Thank you for the question.

EDIT: Those adds over there on the right really crack me up. LOL

EDIT: #2 What I am speaking of is not intellectual, it is not thinking the 2 are 1, look around with your own eyes, what do you see? It is experienced and experienced very fast on this path, it can only be taught from an experienced female to a male or an experienced male to a female. All the books and ideas are almost worthless until after one has experienced this path and it has very much to do with sexuality. It must be experienced with the skin, flesh, bones and marrow.

  1. Salaam,
A very deep question indeed. Watchman Nee refers to 2 spirits in man, an inner (soul) and an outer (physical) the inner is the one that has the attributes of God and can move mountains. However no one believes this because they all believe they are seperate from God. The Kingdom of God is within. Free will is running rampant. I believe when you sacrifice free-will on/in the alter of the heart and SUBMIT that is when the two shall become one. Which is the esoteric goal of meditation. Perhaps Adam and Eve are metaphors. We all have aspects of male and female, usually one is more dominant, and that is how gay people happen, the wrong one is dominant. The soul is the eternal one, not the consciousness, IF you can unite the two before death, THEN the consciousness will become eternal, if not, then it dies with the body, but the soul continues, it just isn’t “you.”
    I hope this helps.

  2. Preparing yourself for marriage demands that the Holy Spirit enter in. We see what happens when ego rules a marriage.

Esoterically, the marriage is of the feminine soul with the masculine Spirit. The Holy Spirit teaches the soul in language she can understand. The Spirit is eternal, and outside of the realm of analytical thought, but the Holy Spirit as mediator brings the soul up to Spirit the same way we need to prepare for a marriage( even if we are already married)

The belief of the ego is divide and conquer. The knowledge of the Holy Spirit is we are One in God. The male and female, yin/ yang harmonious eventually transcends the division.

  3. Have you read any of Steiner’s writings on the Adamic and Polarian phases of evolution? He speculates, as have many others, that humanity has evolved from a singular Adam/atom containing both energies into dualities of male/female energies taking form in the physical.

The male and female polarities have significance on numerous levels. Spirit/matter, Soul/personality, etc. Sex is but the symbol of an inner duality which must be itself transcended and wrought into a unity. It is a transcendence in consciousness. When the polar aspects of ourselves are merged and unified we sense a wholeness or holiness, a completeness. Mountains can be moved. Within, without, male, female, neither, either; all is one temporarily seen in duality and polarity in order that we may find the mystic marriage and experience it in its fullness.

In the esoteric teaching, this takes place in the life of the individual when – by an act of the will – the center at the base of the spine is aroused and the fire and the light of the personal threefold life (one aspect of which is often called the kundalini fire) is carried upwards and merged with the power and the light of the soul. The major approach of the two basic energies of form and soul (as an expression of spirit) are thereby related within the human being; the “marriage in the heavens” takes place and the task of the creative process of incarnation or individual manifestation is on the way to completion. The Dweller upon the threshold of divinity and the Angel of the Presence stand face to face until they blend and synthesize and the glory of God will appear on earth.

    Death will be no more.

    -Shalom :-)

  4. The masculine and feminine are psychological metaphors for aspects of mind. In ancient texts the masculine/reason and feminine/creator have to be integrated for unity consciousness to occur.

Adam and Eve in the Genesis story represent how the internal split occurs – the development of the conditioned ego identity. The vulnerable feminine is tempted by others to believe in concepts of good and bad (about self and the world) to gain power – while Adam/reason sleeps (the rational thinking brain develops later in childhood). Once this duality has been ingested psychologically, we are vulnerable to shame. Shame is psychological superglue that causes reality to repeat what one has been shamed for. Regaining bliss/heaven/the garden is the spiritual journey back to the authentic Self.

Making “the two into one” is a common reference, but not to the male/female principles but the ego identity vs. the true nature or essential Self. But, of course it is the open, vulnerable feminine that is the culprit and can be deceived before the massive thinking brain is on-line.

Without the feminine archetype – the equivilent of unconditional mother love (virgin birth metaphor) – the authentic Self cannot stabilize psychologically whether we are physically male or female. Return to authentic being, i.e. unity consciousness, is a powerful state of causality. We become Creators of reality.

  5. Your question is put together in a very creative way, provoking people to think about it. I think there have also been some very good answers to it. I do think there still remains quite a bit of mystery, things which we simply don’t know at this time. When I read the bible, then I was drawn to what was expressed during this time period, because more than other spiritual texts it talks about evolution of man. I also see the adam/eve story like another poster, that it signifies the moment of man becoming self-conscious. Then when Jesus came, the moment of going beyond being identified with one’s self image. And then the second coming referring to male/female union within, or people becoming whole. Then I see it’s a growing process, and all of this just takes it’s time. The last you quote in #22 in your notes to the question, seems to describe this growing process towards wholeness, that it’s an in-situ regrowing known as metamorphosis or kundalini transformation.

To add to your question, I would also integrate the ending phrases from the Gospel of Thomas:

    111) Jesus said, “The heavens and the earth will be rolled up in your presence. And one who lives from the Living One will not see death.” Does not Jesus say, “Whoever finds himself is superior to the world?”

    112) Jesus said, “Woe to the flesh that depends on the soul; woe to the soul that depends on the flesh.”

    113) His disciples said to Him, “When will the Kingdom come?” “It will not come by waiting for it. It will
not be a matter of saying ‘Here it is’ or ‘There it is.’ Rather,
the Kingdom of the Father is spread out upon the earth, and men do not see it.”

    114) Simon Peter said to Him, “Let Mary leave us, for women are not worthy of Life.” Jesus said, “I myself shall lead her in order to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every woman who will make herself male will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”

These 4 statements for me show that to become whole, we must integrate our bodies with our spirit and our spirit with our bodies. Today I come across so many ‘spiritual people’ who seem to think they are a soul without flesh, that somehow awareness exists without it. Then I can understand the woe that is spoken about by Jesus. One kind of person is unaware of their true nature and can only see their body, the other kind of person is aware of their true nature but denies their body. It is only the one who integrates the two as one that will not see death. I still don’t know what #114 means, perhaps it’s something to due with evolution, that when women start to go through physical changes of integration, then it’s a sign that this change is happening now?

  6. This is a great question!
First, much must be understood. Tantra came down throughout history long before Christianity came into being. Tantra is a technique. Tantra is about a merger, a love story where two become one, and when two become one, both within and without, a third thing happens; love. When the vibrations of the inner and outer are in union, no ego can be present. Lovers are the creators of the vibrations of love. The Adam and Eve story is myth. It points at something–first love and then separation due to the egos.
It is about the power of the female energy at its most subtle level. Both the male and the female are half-male and half-female with one or the other predominant. In the moment of surrender, only the feminine of each is required in creating love. It is the creative principle.

  7. Yes what a great question. I myself like to refer to the Gnostic Gospels that were hidden for a long time. I think the true message is indeed esoteric in nature and do elude to were we come from and to where we will return. The eternal spirit is indeed male and female. These are merre words for our understanding and indeed the eternal spirit is all things, as all things belong to the spirit.
