Question by super Bobo: Prophecy -?
Will prophecy increase as we get closer to the end?
If your church says ‘no, its not for the present day church’, what biblical support?
If your church says ‘of course’, how do you monitor for false prophecies?
If your an atheist / agnostic, no pixie comments (unless they’re funny) – can this demonstrate the ‘supernatural’ for you, and help support a belief in God?
I guess I should have added – ‘do pixies engage in prophetic activities?’

My pixie comments are always funny.
Oh sure, this one isn’t, but you kind of put me on the spot, right?

prophecies can become self-fulfilling. why turn to god out of irrational fear
I say prophesy is for today there is nothing in the bible that says that gift ended. I think if there is a check in your spirit though about what is being prophesied then i would be careful. The holy spirit will discern it for you if you ask for his guidance.
I prophecize that there will be an over-production run of pixie sticks and that children high on sugar will cause the apocalypse.
Increase???? Aren’t there enough loons out there doing it now? I doubt it could increase any more. Unless the pixies come to make them. (Sorry, I had to get a “pixie” in there somehow)
As we grow closer to the end times there will be many prophecies come true. This is just for the signs of the end times. If you read revelations you will get a lot of your answers.
Prophecy needs to be discerned by the local body of believers. The usual tests for a prophecy are.
1. Does it agree in every way with the Word of God.
2. Does it bear good fruit.
3. Is there a witness among those with tested gifts of prophecy that this is a true word.
4. In the long run does it come to pass. This would be the final step
I don’t follow a church for the book says to put nothing between me and him.
Do I believe many will have prophecies and many will have visions, for we are in the end times. I myself have had these visions and went from living a non christian life to almost within months living a 80% christian life and gaining more daily. I am constantly hearing of others going through the same thing. All I can say is, as the book says. He will call his soldiers, and I believe he is doing that right now.
For one to have a vision I can say whatever, for 2 I can still say it, but when it gets into hundreds and thousands and increases daily and many of these visions are very similar yet people live far away from each other, something is at work, and is is YAHWEH.
If a church says ‘no’ then it’s not according to the Bible. All this underground law writing this govt is doing can’t be good. I’m starting to think all leaders are in it together b/c of over-population and the goal of the one world govt as prophesied. Did you hear of ‘Triple Cross’? This book will startle anyone on the misdeeds of this govt, incl. 9/11.
I think the ‘disgusting thing’ is the anti-Christ sitting in the Temple calling himself God
Probably, because so much of Revelations is so cryptic, only when things happen do we realize what the prophecy is actually saying. I’m concerned with the scripture that says ‘when you see the disgusting thing standing in the holy place…’ I have no idea what this disgusting thing is, but I’m pretty sure the holy place must be a symbolic place. I’m curious about that one.
I say yes — my religion supports modern-day prophecy and revelation. Prophesy regarding the church is given to church leaders, and individual prophesy is given to indiviuduals. We believe that false prophecies cannot come through the leaders of my church — or else they get in big-time trouble — and individual prophecies need to be guided by the impressions of the Holy Spirit and whether or not they conflict with accepted scriptural doctrine.
The Bible says that in the last days, God would pour out his spirit and believers would prophecy, see visions, dream dreams. There is no scripture saying when or if this would stop. You know a prophecy is false when it does not line up with what God has said in the Bible and when it does not come true.
The bible tells us that during the tribulation, people will “dream dreams”, so I assume that means prophecy. I don’t really care what my church says, I read the bible for myself. On September 9th or 10th of 2001 (can’t remember now if it was one day earlier or two), an elementary school child had a nightmare about a plane crashing into a building. He had told his teacher that day, but of course the teacher thought it was just a bad dream. On September 11, of course, the teacher got spooked and told the authorities, who checked the child out, thinking that possibly he’d overheard something which contributed to his nightmare, possibly overheard a terrorist plot. Turned out the child wasn’t anywhere near any terrorists, hadn’t overheard a thing, just had a prophetic dream. No, I didn’t make this up, read it on the news a few days later. No explanation was ever given.
Yes, I believe prophesy absolutely has a place today – as far as checks go, when someone says they’ve received a revelation from God (especially if it has anything at all to do with us personally) we have every right to ask God ourselves in prayer if that’s true or not. Of course it’s important to learn how to identify the promptings of the Holy Ghost to get an accurate answer (but that’s for a whole different question).
The prophesies in the Bible have already been made.
Many are already fulfilled, and many more are going to be fulfilled.
So, your question is a little misleading. Biblical prophecy is already made.
The fulfillments will increase though.
Monitoring false prophecies?
Deuteronomy 18:20-22 already provides a “test” for false prophets. Apply the standard, and it will become obvious as to whether that prophets prophecies are true or false.
if someone claims to be a prophet then says a certain thing will come to past and it doesn’t. Then he is just another guy who is full of crap. A tree is judged by it’s fruit!! yes prophetic events will happen more and more frequently as we get closer to the second advent, just like a woman’s birth pains. AS TO STARJUMPERS QUESTION That disgusting thing she mentions is just Satan pretending to be Jesus. and the Holy place she mentions is not symbolic. it is actually the holy temple located in Jerusalem .
