A look at some of the flawed thinking that prompts people who believe in certain non-scientific concepts to advise others who don’t to be more open-minded. music © QualiaSoup . A note on spelling: A number of people have commented that ‘close-minded’ should be spelt ‘closeD-minded’. This is incorrect. It’s one of those cases in English where what you might suspect to be the case, isn’t. The term is ‘close-minded’, in the same way that when one is reticent, one is said to be ‘close-mouthed’, not ‘closeD-mouthed’.

@Watchdawg Yes, because science is real!
@StalkingLeopard Religion can and are always being disproven. However, God cannot be disproven or proven.
This is a really cogent video – says all the things I’ve found myself trying and totally failing to express to godbothering door-knockers and crystal-healing-wiccan friends alike.
Should help towards a much less murually exasperating future! Thanks!
damn, how often did i experience this situation over and over again. thx for the vid, i’ll use that to argue with certain people from now on.
@hegemonymony Yes, it’s a method of controlling the masses. If you don’t like a particular group you brand them enemies of god, if you want people to think you’re superior morally, you drop a few lines about jesus and you get elected, if you want to earn money you sell something which will enhance their spiritual powers and many will purchase. Religion is here for all the gullible conforming peons to continue to do their duty without thinking critically.
Very educational. Can we show the world now?
@hegemonymony God may or may not exist, there is no proof either way. Really, who cares? Religion on the other hand is man made. Excellent tool to control illiterate masses and collect “religious” taxes. BTW, I still have some indulgences for sale circa 1500s, anyone interested?
If that is you narrating, you are fucking awesome. =) I hope you live in America so you can get all the ladies with that accent. =)
Not bad at all 🙂
@Frontigenics Where are you getting the “1 in infinity” number? You’re just making up statistical odds now to try and lend credibility to your assertion where none exists.
I think you need to study actual theories on cosmology before you start making such unfounded claims.
And when I say religion, I’m talking about belief in a god…not belief in burning bushes that can talk. xD
One more thing: who’s to say religion is wrong if it can’t be disproved?
@hegemonymony
I agree, I think it’s here for a lot of reasons, the main probably being people want answers to hard questions. Like how we were created, the meaning of life, etc.
But anyway, back to the vid, there were some very good points made here. But when you provide someone with actual evidence that clearly proves your statements, and that person still doesn’t accept it, he or she is being close minded and ignorant.
@BorisGodunov For some reason, this comment was marked as spam. I told Youtube that it is, in fact, the opposite. I don’t know if it helped, but whomever flagged it as such should bow his head in shame.
I’m an atheist.
I think religion is here for a reason.
Who agrees with me?
It’s still hard to make judgment about spiritual belief so I won’t say anything about it. But the most important element is learning to be OPEN-MINDED and becoming OPEN, or else one only grows old but have never really grown up.
It’s refreshing and reassuring to hear such a well though out and clearly worded argument against “open minded” individuals. This video will come in handy when I’m arguing with them =]
@tattvam4 This guy gets it…
The creator of this video, not so much. Well, not personally the creator, but his ideals. It’s important to be able to separate you’re ideals from you ego. A. Because it’s the first step to understanding open-mindedness. and B. you don’t end up blindly fallowing science text books like religious people blindly fallow the bible.
@BorisGodunov Well, I guess it really depends weather or not you believe the universe is infinite or not. Science points to around 13 billions years and if we also assume this is the only assurance of the/a universe, than the odds of us existing are 1 in infinity… which is impossible or in other words supernatural… since it’s true nature is to not exist.
Science, probability, math, ect all deal in tangibility. The essence of the universe itself is intangible.
LOL I like your witch doctor pic.
@Frontigenics Elaborate…
@Frontigenics Er, did you ever miss the point. 1) there isn’t any actual evidence that the universe itself is “supernatural,” and 2) why is it “closed-minded” to not believe such a thing in the absence of evidence for it?
You’re the one being closed-minded here: you’ve decided the universe is supernatural, sans evidence, and are allowing that fallacious assumption to color your perspective.
Nicely constructed argument.
This video is actually pretty close-minded. The universe itself is a super-natural occurrence.
i love it!!
