@mossberg451 well mindfullness is about accepting.. so accept you cannot change the way others may think.. you can only change your own thinking and behaving.

@qxw667 is a part of mindfullness… the non judgemental mindset will bring out our deeper feelings, the origin of mindfullness lies in eastern religions, which have in common that mankind is good from the beginning. (contradiction with christianity)

@mossberg451 and there cant be both? i see it like this. There;s a vertical and horizontal line in your body, the vertical goes from the top to god. te lower vertical is your relation with yourself. The horizontal is the relation with others.
meditation is the lower part of the same vertical line, and so the can be syngronised.

I’m quite sure that Dan Dennett would have no beef with Jon Kabat Zinn, considering all his published scientific studies on illness, not to mention his deliberate attempt to do work “without the buddhism.” He is certainly not an enemy of science or reason, and if you think so I’d suggest you look into his work a bit more

Meditation isn’t about contemplating, or thinking at all. Its much more about awareness of thinking, if anything, or as Jon Kabat Zinn says, it’s about being. For this reason it’s something that cannot be explained, you simply need to try it for yourself. This is the reason Jon Kabat Zinn uses what you might call “deepities” or words you feel do an inadequate job of explaining, because the subject is ineffable.

Because one can’t just conjure up “sensible perspectives” whenever one feels like it, and force one’s mind into shape.
Existential questions might be contemplated in meditation, but in this case its becoming aware of things you usually aren’t, starting with the breath.

Abrahamic religions for the weak, cowardly & lazy. Don’t worry about what u do in life, just make sure u repent, beg & grovel like crazy! The pleased king will put u up in a 5 star hotel for eternity! No wonder christians can’t wait to die. NOT!
Moksha is EARNED, never begged for nor given. Heaven & Hell are right here on Earth, we make them happen thru our efforts, not God. Hinduism, Buddhism are religions for the Strong, Brave & active

Why do you have to meditate to realize that it takes a considerable effort and sensible perspective to avoid letting your life run you rather than visa versa? And why even call it meditating if what you’re doing is just thinking about the existential questions that can help reveal “sensible perspectives” from which to view your life? I wish a had Dan Dennett’s “deepity” meter. It would be interesting to count them all.
