The people who believe in graphology think it’s a science. It’s based on a theory that was kicking around in the late 19th century.
If you need methods of fortune telling there’s palmistry, Tarot cards, reading tea leaves. Lots more, too.

Graphology is claimed to be useful for everything from understanding health issues, morality and past experiences to hidden talents and mental problems.* However, “in properly controlled, blind studies, where the handwriting samples contain no content that could provide non-graphological information upon which to base a prediction (e.g., a piece copied from a magazine), graphologists do no better than chance at predicting… personality traits. So, no fortune telling is not involved.
Graphology probably started about 1000 B.C. in China and Japan. We know that one of the most famous early believers was the Greek philosopher Aristotle. He once wrote that he could “define the soul of people by their way of writing.”
During the Middle Ages, Catholic monks practiced the art.
Later, Shakespeare wrote: “Give me the handwriting of a woman, and I will tell you her character.” That’s not as easy to do today, as will be explained later.
The first known book on graphology was published in Florence, Italy, in 1622. The author was Camillo (or Camilio) Baldi, and the title of the book was De signis ex epistolis (rough translation: “The Meaning of Letters”). It had a subtitle: “Treat¬ing of How a Written Message May Reveal the Nature of Quali¬ties of the Writer.” Baldi was a professor of medicine, philos¬ophy, and logic at the University of Bologna. He traveled around from castle to castle analyzing the writing of the lords and ladies.
Today, such a small time is given over to learning cursive in and out of the educational world, little can be told from the scribbles of either men or women. Once there were thoughts that a person’s future might be gained to a small degree, but not anymore.
