Question by zdfhsfdd: If technology permitted, would you rather have your consciousness transferred to a computer, or accept death?
Lets say the technology existed, allowing reality to be simulated by computer simulation indistinguishable from “true” reality, allowing you to upload your consciousness into this computer.. It’s universe would have the same laws of physics, and you would be born as a baby, with no memory of the external reality.. Once your simulated physical body dies, you start over, and the process is repeated..forever. Would you go through with this? Or would you accept death as the end?
if you are at the end of your days, and/or forced to make a choice between the two

We already have done. Welcome to the matrix.
Seriously, I don’t see why I would have to be virtually reborn as a virtual baby. It would be easier to transfer my mind as-is to the computer. I would prefer to know I am dead so that I can adapt to a new mentoring role or be part of a think-tank.
I don’t think we are very far away from this possibility either. Maybe only 20 years.
What do you think? Answer below!
If no memories carried over this process would seem pointless to me. Among other reasons I would think it a waste of resources to live in this “virtual world” and would live out my life as best I could before dying (Or in this scenario, I’d just die after having already lived my life).
I would accept death as the end. Forever is a really long time.
Surely that is not the only option???
I would have my consciousness uploaded into a robot body and just interact with the real world!
oh hell no!!! give me death please!!!!
Without memory, why do you call that thing “me”?
I -am- my memories! Effectively, both options are death, so I don’t care.
I look forward to death. I don’t wish to remain on this earth any longer than required. Just hoping my death isn’t painful, but I can deal with that.
Sounds like you have been watching the Matrix. No I would rather be dead and see if on the off chance there is life after death.
I would like to be reincarnated as a hologram, like Rimmer in ‘Red Dwarf’.
upload me
Death, hands down.

I used to LOVE that show, and wish to hell they would bring it back!

NO I WANNA MEET JEBUS IN HEAVEN AND BE LOVED DESPITE MY FRIDAY NIGHT CROSS BURNINGS!!!!!!
Hell Yeah!!
You’d be cheating death and I’m all for that!!
dude! hard to say. deep thinking i like that anyways im not sure probabaly hmmm wow that is hard to choose well since im a christian and believe i will go to heaven when i die and believe that my consciousness will be reconnected with my spiritual body then no
Given the scenario you present, I’d choose death unless I were able to choose certain specific aspects of my new existence such as parents, my ‘inborn’ temperament and various other genetic features (appearance, health, etc.), life experiences. I wouldn’t do it all over again unless I had a great deal of input beforehand. I didn’t (nor did anyone) get to choose this time
