Question by Rinley (Viva la Fashion Resistance!): How do I go about writing this?
In my book, “Dragons & Deceit”, Arthur Witham with his sister, Tiffany, and his 2 best friends, Lake Miller and Lydia Rosseau, travels the world on dragons to solve an 18-year-old murder mystery and clear his deceased father’s name. I’m writing it in chunks, meaning I’ll do one scene, then a different one and then put them all in order at the end.
In this particular scene, Rosseau confesses that she has a crush on Arthur, who has his eyes on a Veela, Rosabella. How should I go about bringing this up in my story? I don’t want it to be the main plot line, but it’s more of a background story. Should I have her just say it to him, or should I have her be jealous of Rosabella?

Don’t write this book it sounds terrible. I don’t want to damage your self esteem as a writer but this is a very poor idea.

I personally dislike when people in stories come out and say “Oh, by the way, I actually LIKE you!” It’s very unrealistic. I think maybe she should get caught discussing it with his sister, or maybe his sister can accidentally let it slip in a conversation.
Show, don’t tell.

You should probably make suttle hints throughout some scenes. For example, have Arthur accidentally brush his hand against Veela’s and then have him pull away in an embarrassed way. That would show that he somewhat has a crush on her. And then, you could make a quick comment about how Rosseau quickly averted her gaze from the two or something, showing that she’s a little jealous. If you keep doing that, readers will realize the whole romance thing. Good luck!
