Question by The (Dastardly) Laughing Man: Christians: What is your general opinion regarding atheists?
Just curious, by your opinion are we heathens? Blinded by the devil or science? Fools that said in their heart there is no god? Amoral people?
Also if this opinion is personal or shared by your congregation/denomination and which do you belong to.

Why do you really care what they think?

I have no opinion on Atheists.
I know who my God is and how he works in my life.
Back when i was a Christian, (A Lutheran one), I used to feel sorry for atheists actually.. As in: “God is so awesome!! I cannot believe they are missing out, and I wish I could show them the truth!” Then eventually I realized *I* was the deluded one. And eventually I became an atheist myself…
To me, there is no such thing as atheist or whatever…
I simply believe that Jesus is a friend who could die for my sins and my most faithful friend.
The atheists I know are good, moral people. No, not heathens. I am non-denominational, there are too many that are judgemental of others. I used to label myself a fundamentalist, but that has changed over time.
They’re fun.
You have a right to question belief. You are not a heathen or blinded by the devil. We are all in this together.
Amoral? I’d have to know you.
Honestly? I think that you are lost and bitter people. I was rather neutral before coming to R&S, but after I just have nothing good to say at all. I’ve been lied about, lied to, called names, had people leaving me vulgar e-mails.
I think you can all go to hell.
I always try my best to view atheists as Jehovah God views them according to His Word, the Holy Bible.
Firstly, that God loves every single individual as a person though we ALL displease Him in many ways.(1John 4:8; John 3:16; Romans 3:23)
Further, Jesus Christ’s words at Matthew 7:1-5 admonish Christians to stop unmercifully judging others. We are ALL sinners so by judging others we put ourselves also into judgment. Besides only Jehovah God and Jesus Christ can judge justly for only them can read the heart.
I believe that Atheists have reasons (right and/or wrong) for being so. It could be the sufferings they have experienced or see others bear, the hypocrisy in religions, the unbiblical hell, religious intolerance, the agnostic view of some who claim to be Christians that faith in God needs no explanation and that some beliefs are acceptable because they are “mysteries”, secular education (e.g. evolution), etc. As Christians, we respect Atheists feelings and beliefs.
We hope though that Atheists examine the Bible themselves and based on such honest examination see its merits (or otherwise).
Also as Christians, we have the responsibility to reflect God’s love to everyone, Atheists never excluded. In these last days, Christians have on their shoulders the weight as well as the privilege to know that this old system of things is going to end soon and that precious lives are at stake. And that God in His great love no longer bear the hatred, wickedness and sufferings of this world and will “make all things new” for all who truly love Him. (2Tim 3:1-5; 1John 2:17; Re 21.3-5)
Would you blame us for telling you?
Talk to other Jehovah’s Witnesses and see for yourself how we view Atheists.
to answer this id have to use the bible, it says the one saying there is no god is a fool.
i have friends like this i dont judge them for being this way.
The same as myself (I’m christian), in the fact that we all sin’d.
Sad and adrift but don’t know or accept it.
I’m non-denominational
Atheists are people who claim that they don’t believe in God. Just like everyone else they need a divine work of grace in order to be saved. That’s the Biblical view that is taught at the church that I attend.
Ephesians 2:1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
Sound science doesn’t blind people to God’s truth. What the Devil or the “prince of power of the air” does is he uses the desire that people have to be the masters of their own destiny – with no Creator to one day have to give an account to – to drive people like that who are in scientific fields to come up with far fetched explanations for this universe and the life on planet earth that exclude a supernatural creator.
Satan is in the business of supplanting true worship with false religion. The Bible says that he is more crafty than any other creature God has made. If he can’t get people into a pagan religion or a Christian cult then he is just as happy to get them into the equivalent of a “religion” where humanity takes the place of God as the ultimate authority in all matters regarding truth and behavior.
The people in such systems obviously would think that it was laughable that some invisible being was influencing their thinking and keeping them from what they might characterize as the so called ‘truth’. But that’s what the Bible teaches and that’s what current evidence shows in regards to the devotion that many have to the slowly crumbling theory of macro-evolution.

Evolution Is Religion–Not Science

I’m sort of a Christian atheist. I don’t think whether you’re an atheist or not has much bearing on things. However, it is very important if you’re a Christian or not and within that, what counts as genuine Christianity, and whether that’s possible.
When you say atheist, i think you probably mean atheist and metaphysical naturalist. What i think of that is that the nature of corroborated scientific theory is determined by social forces, and for that matter the scientific method itself, so that it only appears to be objective. The fact that it isn’t is suggested by such gaps as Bell’s Theorem and the impossibility of salva veritate substitution of mental by physical description. Consequently, metaphysical naturalism limits itself to phenomena which can be reproduced and there really is prejudice against certain potential experimental results even when they are reproducible. The nature of the human nervous system and physiology is another limiting factor here. Examples of what might be excluded from scientific enquiry by these means include such things as the possibility that prayer is “answered” by a psychic force field generated by a spiritual community rather than some kind of God, the existence of non-conscious ghosts as recordings of repetitive events in a particular location and the existence of premonitions in dreams due to the loss of the category of temporal order.
I also wonder how you define God. If your notion of God is a conscious being whose existence does not depend on physical reality, then maybe you could be more open to other ways of understanding what God might be. For instance, Spinoza’s view of God is pretty close to atheism, and the openness of the Universe to rational explanation by rational beings such as humans could be compared to the Christian Logos – i.e. the rational faculty that exists in the human mind as a consequence of having to survive in a Universe which is subject to similar constraints is in a sense God.
Denominationally, i’m a Unitarian.
Judge not, least yea be judged. That is my opinion. you are free to believe or not. No denomination/congregation.
Like with any group there are good ones and bad ones. Before you take that comment the wrong way I think there are also good and bad Christians. But my general opinion is that atheists are pretty cool people and they know how to have fun. Everyone has the right to decide for themselves what they believe. And I can see how atheists get tired of others trying to shove certain beliefs down their throats. I get that…I don’t want people doing that to me either. I’ve personally known some very moral and compassionate people who just don’t believe in God. I can say that I don’t feel as judged by Atheists as I do by some, not all, Christians. Even as a Christian I feel like other Christians look down their noses at me at times. Maybe I’m just paranoid? Peace!
I love them all, the same as I love all my brothers and sisters. That doesn’t mean that I get maudlin, or kissy-huggy, I just want everyone to have the best in life, no matter who they are.
Opinion of orthodox an person:
There are people who are religious.
There are people who don’t think of God, they have other things in life.
And there are people who deny existence of God – the atheists.
Real deep-rooted atheists don’t worship evil directly. They do it unconsciously. They are free of limitations given by God through faith and therefore they are free to do whatever they want.
They will always state that God doesn’t exist so they can do anything (I mean sins) without responsibility. They will not listen to their consentience. Consentience is a voice of God in the soul of every human being.
Atheists do believe in God. It is called death. They fear it the most.
The real difference between a Christian and an atheist: Christian will always try to escape sin and will never appreciate it, although he might be not ideal. The atheist most often does the opposite, he is captured by sin and has no way out. But still he is protected and loved by God who is waiting for him to become the faithful.
It is their choice not to believe. Their truth is not the same as my truth. I cannot force anyone to believe nor can they force to to not believe. We just need to respect one another and leave each other alone.
Well coming from both sides of the fence as I have experienced I have to say that I don’t really have an opinion … are they amoral or immoral ? Depends … God created a prescription of right and wrong in each one of us and even if we may knowlingly say no to it in our minds our hearts will always have this moral basket … therefore whether a skeptic is moral or immoral is up to them to own up to this standard … modest skepticism and uncertainty I encourage and it itself is mentioned in the Bible but radical or philosophical skepticism does not make sense … absolutism is truly quite outstanding and relativism unfortunately does not add up … there is some slight leanings or evidence of consciousness ( or in a more common term the soul ) … mathematical truths , philosophical truths , legal truths , etc … the universe … the question of evil and much more also comes into the equation … I have to say that in the end that though evidence is compelling and may steer a person one way or another that it’s a matter of the heart underneath … whether we be radical skeptics/believers or modest and open minded it all comes down to the heart … to the soul … to the mind … I’m no genius … I’m quite average in my stature … I had a Christian friend from Malaysia ( she comes from a Buddhist family ) and I truly agree with her now or should I say what the Bible states … actions speak louder than any words can do … sometimes it does matter what I say and sometimes it does not … the heart is God’s territory and only he can change a person … I have learned to let it all to God … I’m simply a follower and an example … He does the work … I’m thinking of joining the Red Cross … help the lost and the needy … what do I think of atheists ? What does God think of atheists ? My friend though God does seem cruel he is no bloodly sport but overall a Father … a Heavenly Father … someone whom scolds us when we are undisciplined and cares for us since we are his children … blinded by Science ? No … I rather think that some are blinded by scientism or pseudo science ( and it can go both ways ) … I believe that Science and Religion balance out each other … two sides of the same coin … similar to a man and a woman … they complete and need one another … complimentary
In my experience, 75% disbelieve in something I don’t believe in myself.
They blast their mouth off without getting the facts first. They assume private interpretation of the Bible most of the time too. And they downplay the Will so that they can make the whole matter an intellectual affair.
I agree that we should respect each other’s belief or lack of belief and leave each other alone. I am Baptist.
A “Christian” would remember that the bible tells us not to judge unless we want to be judged….To each his own.
