Fred Nietzsche writes “We criticize a thinker more sharply when he presents us with a displeasing proposition; and yet it would be more reasonable to do this when his proposition pleases us.”

I just let people beilive what they want as long as they don’t hurt anyone, does that make me open minded
FOX NEWS
“I may disagree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” For ME, it means that you can disagree at the other side’s opinion, but we must include the “Freedom of Speech” in this quote. I apologize, if I’m actually wrong at the meaning that I just put out.
If we lived in a more open world, perhaps nobody would thumbs me down sixty times on every comment I make.
It’s okay to think that Super Mario RPG is a little overrated, isn’t it? I don’t thumb people down for saying it rocks.
Nah, jk. I’m extremely close minded.
Great Job.
@ljhop nice, nice. i agree.
“BOTH SIDES” lol! Tell that to our partisan lawmakers!
he looks a little like tom cruise at times 😀
well, if one side says that gays shouldn’t have civil rights, that side would be pretty damn hypcritical if asking for tolerance, no?
perfect hair and teeth 🙂
keeeep it up
Having an open mind to me is to simply listen and not discriminate. “Everything should be made as simple as possible, not simpler.” – Albert Einstein
Comments welcome 🙂
“Imagination is greater than knowledge” – Albert Einstein
if the counter-argument seems reasonable ill take it in consideration and investigate which of the two is most likely to be correct.
More people should think like this
u r cool 🙂
only special people will get what open mind is
2012 will help u understand
Man, a reasonable and enjoyable discussion? On the internet? I can die a happy man. 😛
Not in the slightest. These discussions can certainly improve our ability to reason & discuss our understanding with our neighbors. Civil discourse has far more benefit than detriment. I thank you for yours.
Sorry, it’s probably not worth discussing here in such abbreviated detail, and you clearly seem to be a thoughtful and well-reasoned person. I trust you take your worldview seriously.
I hope I don’t comes across as argumentative for argument’s sake.
That is, of course, operating under the presumption that man’s relationship with God (either conceptual or actual) has not been there since the beginning of man and possible creation, passed down from generation to generation as historical records suggest. That in itself is an assumption, and a rather important one at that.
The idea that god can only exist in the minds of people and that you can’t find evidence of it in both nature and studies of human behavior I haven’t found to be true.
No. The Straw man would mean I was saying he WAS talking about unicorns. I made an analogy. Here’s another one: your understanding of the Straw Man fallacy is akin to a guy who watches transformers and then goes outside and starts talking to a yellow camaro. Science doesn’t need to prove or disprove things that are not actually there to begin with… just because you can imagine them.
I assume only two things. That the universe is real (can’t prove that; have to assume it), and that we can by measurement learn something about the universe. I don’t assume perfect understanding or “beyond a shadow of a doubt” at all, I merely state that the speaker in this video is manipulating the viewer with a fallacy from the beginning. gods. by definition (supernatural) cannot be shown to exist in nature, the concept of god only exists in the minds of people. Our host distorts that imbalanc
That sounds good in theory, but that seems to be operating under an assumption that all truth that matters can be proven beyond the shadow of a doubt and that one can exist without taking numerous essential facts on good authority and not irrefutable evidence.
Although I completely agree that there are not two equal sides to the vast majority of arguments, the rare exceptions being those with concepts of morality are not a factor.
Actually “equivalent” is me being generous. What is implied by the video is “equal”… one of the oldest fallacies in the game. No one should be open minded to manipulation. The equivalence we must demand is that it is tested; demonstrated in nature. Call it science, call it rational thought… beliefs in things that are not demonstrated in reality are not equal. That’s not only open minded it is healthy minded.
@FM897 Well, that’s not entirely true. Religion, or at least, the supernatural, was originally created to explain what science, in those days, couldn’t. The natural response, when you conceive of some super powerful, otherworldly being, is to praise it, because you don’t want to piss it off.
This man deserved to be god, because he’s that open minded.
Wow. A sane Christian? Who would have thunk it?
need more of these callers in the world.
This guy is a fucking genius! If christians were all like this then the world would be a far more harmonius and happy place.
@TwentyYearDenial dude, i’ll be there to shake his hand : )
I want to throw this caller a party at my own house.
@Xenophile665 Or replace them with all the narrow-minded!
google Doe’s Account. mindblowing.
atheists die; and religious people “die”.
I wounder if religious people think that it would be a loving act of God
if he made himself visible so that religious
people who use bombs on their bodies
to kill other people in he’s name many of them children,
that they stop bombing little children into pieces,
do you think that would be a loving act of God ?
This guy sounds like Dr. Phil Foxworthy
Wow, it’s like seeing a unicorn! An open minded christian who can state his beliefs in an intelligent and thoughtful manner. 🙂
This guy sounds like Dr. Phil
@Acorafication True.
@iWigY If everyone would think and act like this caller, religion wouldn’t exist.
The caller sounds a bit like Jeff Foxworthy
If everyone would think and act like this Caller, i wouldn’t fight against Religion.
just because we’re atheist, doesn’t mean we don’t have morals, as many creationists claim. i can tell if something is right or wrong. if you wouldn’t want something to happen to you, then don’t do it.
@tooblvr4ever
How can you push non-beliefs on some1…i can’t push nothing onto you..
And uuduu7 is right, the Bible is full of mass genocide and horrible stuff, and yet Christianity calls it “a morally acceptable book, out which u can take your morality from”, i agree, some of the passages with Jesus are inspiring, but most of the Old Testament and some of the New Testament is just HORRIBLE.
@OkWheresMyMonkey
Because he will burn in hell if he apostatises 🙂
Amazing.
Lol caller is Dr.Phil xD
So why is this caller still a Christian?
There would not be such a blacklash against christianity, if christians would be like this guy.
