Question by Dr Sardonicus: Which psychotropic plant alkaloids best open the doors between planes of consciousness?
One’s consciousness starts to perceive an iridescent aura enveloping the people and objects around them. A bit later, we feel a pressure, the pulsing of energy within and outside of the body, expanding in concentric waves like those created by a stone thrown on the surface of a lake.

Question by Imad N: What are the difference between these Neuro- terms?
I am confused between these terms:
neurology
neuroscience
neurophysiology
neuropsychology
Can you please tell me what is the difference between them

Best answer:

Answer by jannsody
The “merriam-webster dictionary” (as opposed to “just” websters) defines “neurology” as “the scientific study of the nervous system (brain, spinal cord, nerves) especially in respect to its structure, functions, and abnormalities.” (Just an fyi that “ology” means “the study of”, and “neuro” stands for “nerve,” “nervous tissue” or “nervous system”.) Therefore, a neurologist is a medical doctor (licensed physician) who specializes in those with disorders of the nervous system.

I’m just an everyday person, but neuroscience deals with the study and research of disorders of the nervous system. A neuroscientist usually has a Ph.D. in order to possibly get a job performing clinical research. People interested in neuroscience may first get a bachelor’s in cognitive (thought processes) science and/or linguistics (but not necessarily “just” those major/s).

The “medi lexicon” site — and just an fyi that the url/uniform resource locator is “.com” which usually means commercial or for-profit — merely defines neurophysiology as “physiology of the nervous system” :) According to the same site, a physiology is “the science concerned with *normal* vital processes of animal and vegetable organisms rather than to their anatomic structure, the biochemical composition, or how they are by drugs or disease.”

With regard to neuropsychology, it is the study of how the brain affects behavior. A clinical neuropsychologist needs a Ph.D. in order to possibly get a job. They may work with people with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), stroke (“brain attack”) which is a type of brain injury, dementia (cognitive decline) or other neurological disorders that affect cognition and behavior of the individual.

Question by Worldmeetsheartbeat: What are the similarities and differences between an electrical circuit and the flow of water in pipes?
science – physics – electrical circuits

Best answer:

Answer by oldprof
Similarities:

The current of water flows in pipes much like the current of electrons flows in wires. Where pipes split the current splits; where wires split the current splits.

The current of water flows faster when the water pressure goes higher. The current of electrons flows faster when the voltage goes higher.

The current of water flows slower when the cross sectional area of the pipes is constricted. The current of electrons flows slower when the cross sectional area of the wires is constricted.

Differences:

The current of water flows onto the ground when a pipe is severed. The current of electrons through a wire does not.

Increasing current of water flow causes a minimal increase in temperature. Increasing the current of electrons causes a noticeable increase in temperature.

The pipes must be hollow for the current of water to flow. The wires are not solid and the free electrons flow freely nonetheless.

Water flows through pipes at rates like meters per second. Electrons drift through wires a rates like .00028 m/s (copper wire).

Question by Faith: What is the difference between biological science and physical science in the MCAT?
if Biological science is the study of the cell/biology and includes chemistry!
then physical science would be all PHYSICS?!!!!! I hope not :(

Best answer:

Answer by CPlusPlus Guru
“The Physical Sciences section assesses problem-solving ability in general [ie. inorganic] chemistry and physics and the Biological Sciences section evaluates these abilities in the areas of biology and organic chemistry.”

“The Physical Sciences section is administered first. It is composed of 52 multiple-choice questions related to general chemistry and physics. Exam takers are allotted 70 minutes to complete this section of the exam.”

The Physical Sciences section is in multiple-choice format, so it shouldn’t be too hard. Still, you should study, alone or with a tutor.

absolutely. quantum physics leads to all sorts of thought-provoking questions. f.ex. the discussions between Bohr and Einstein are not only scientific, but also have a philosophical edge, they are still worthwhile to study,

Question by Nuseed: What’s the difference between goth and emo music?
I love all types of musics but my 13 year old sister has told me that one of my favorite songs, “Love Like Winter” by AFI is an emo song. I thought emo songs were depressing. Love Like Winter makes me want to get up and shake my booty–not want to grab a gallon of ice cream and cry. I always equated emo with goth music. But then my sister tells me there’s a difference. She proceeded to explain the difference but I suddenly developed a headache midway through her explaination. Maybe you guys can help me out. Straight to the point please [I'd like some examples of groups and songs]
Thanks in advance!
