    Ironically, the highest levels of consciousness and unconsciousness are both characterized by a near lack of the perception of time passing.

    OR… are the “lower” and “higher” levels of consciousness basically the same?

    In either event, I agree – one’s level of consciousness does affect the perception of time passing. For instance, in sleep, it usually seems to pass quickly, but can pass slowly too. And in meditation, it usually seems to pass slowly, but can pass quickly too.
