Question by : Science – physics grade 11 .. plz help !?
1- what is the difference between static and kinetic frictional forces?

2- a child is riding a merry-go-round that is travelling at a sconstant speed.

 a) Is he viewing the world from an inertial or non-inertial fram of refrence?explain ur reasoning

 b) what type of force does his horse exert on him to keep him travelling in a circle? In which direction does this force act?

 c) In what direction does the child feel that a force is pushing him? explain why this preceived force is called a “fictitious force”

Best answer:

Answer by Souradip
1. Static friction is the force of friction that acts when there is no relative motion between the surfaces in contact. So, in order to make a body move, a force must be applied, which is greater than that of static friction.
But, on the other hand, kinetic friction is the force of friction that acts when there is relative motion between the surfaces in contact. It always tries to stop the motion, hence acting in a direction opposite to the motion.
Static friction also opposes, but it does for the ‘tendency’ of motion, not actual motion.
Finally, the magnitude of static friction is slightly more than that of kinetic friction.
2.
a,b,c) This is a non inertial frame of motion, as the object on the circle feels a pseudo force called centrifugal force away from the center of the circle, to balance the centripetal force which is towards the center of the circle. Actually, the centripetal force keeps the body moving in the circle and is balanced by friction. As, this centrifugal force does not exist in reality, it is called “fictitious or pseudo force”.

Question by William S: Science/physics question involving energy use/output of the human body?
I do not need complicated math problems as this is just out of curiosity, however I would like a simplistic answer since I am a layman.

The Question:
How effiecient is the energy used by the body to throw things (say a baseball or something) different distances?

What I mean is, if you exert 100 energymotrons (joules I’m sure are the correct unit but energymotrons are being used for this experiment to dumb it down.) and get a distance of 1000 distancemotrons, will expending 200 energymotrons yield a distance of 2000 distancemotrons?

OR

Does the energy required to double the distance of 1000 distancemotrons multiply exponentially? Say three or four times the initial 100 energymotrons to equal double the initial 1000 distancemotrons?

Basically, it is A. or B.

A.
100 energymotrons = 1000 distancemotrons
200 energymotrons = 2000 distancemotrons

B.
100 energymotrons = 1000 distancemotrons
400 energymotrons = 2000 distancemotrons

remember exact ratios not needed

Best answer:

Answer by gcnp58
I didn’t do the math, but my educated guess is it is nonlinear, B, because the aerodynamic drag on an object increases with the square of the velocity. That means for a given initial angle upwards, to go farther the initial velocity must be faster, but that means it takes 4 times as much energy to make the object go twice as fast. In other words, if you throw both balls at a 45 degree angle up from the horizon, the one going 2000 dm needs to be traveling at least twice as fast.

What I haven’t done is bother to look up the ballistic formulas to compute distance traveled for a given initial angle and velocity, so my estimate of “twice as fast” above might be wrong.

Question by ddeexxxxtteerr: Quantum Mechanics, Technically I think it might be a miss calculation?
I have been thinking about it alot lately and watching vids of Lectures and opinions and theory about Quantum physics and if quantum mechanics actually exist and works the way they say, then along with what I already know.. Just having the knowledge of quantum mechanics in my brain and my thorough desire to leave this existence I should have done so already.

The second I saw that first vid of ‘the double slit test’ and accepted it as truth and said WOW! I should have de manifested right there. The fact that I remain In a place I choose not to be in anymore even with the “factual” knowledge that my consciousness has the ability to alter and change and even cancel out the waves of my own existence means that the people claiming this new type of science are simply over looking one very important angle.

If the act of measuring collapses the wave function or randomness of the tiny piece of matter acting like a non-matter (IE water as in the double slit test) then that means that it must have its own sort of consciousness whether remote or self. With that I say they need to test the double slit test over a longer period of time. Like until it does something different. If It is truly random then eventually, after doing it enough times, rules of existence or not, It MUST do something different. Create an exotic out come. Giving us some kind of grounds to basis the randomness.

Knowing the the universe is a paradox is simply not enough. There must be a structure to the chaos, or this planet would not have remained protected and untouched by the rest of the universe for so long. A separate group of consciousness controlling the chaos we experience giving it structure, even if mild.

This existence has sustained it self in this stagnant point in existence for to long with countless millions of separate and connected consciousness striving for greatness and open to answers and to find out WHY & HOW. The few that choose to remain in their ignorance should have no effect on the ability to move forward in existence whether connected or not. These binds are infinite and do not know limits or restrictions.

Just a theory and also a Logical conclusion to why we remain in this stagnant position for so long even though so many of us desire more, and if there is not a greater or separate group of consciousness out in the universe holding us to these borders is that this is all actually old news. Quantum physics was discovered in the 1920′s.
Could there be a group of People here on earth buried in some government somewhere that is actually controlling our evolution? Put to gether in the beginning of the discovery to keep this linier time-space from unraveling at the knowledge of our infinetness?
There is defiantly something there, holding me at bay. Just out of reach even though I am aware and willing and grabing for it..

What do you think?

Best answer:

Answer by <(-^_^-)>
yeah i know what you mean, i felt the same way about it. I actually came to accept the idea because i kept thinking about it until that it hit me. Its ind of difficult to explain because its a huge theory but if you think about it a bit more then you will make up your mind about if you like it or not. But i totally understand your point of view.

Question by : Science Physics problem. Momentum. 10 Points! please help?
A 100 kg astronaut at rest on her 2,000 kg spaceship acquires a speed of 3 m/s by applying a pushing force for 0.5 seconds.
(a) Calculate the velocity of the spaceship move after she pushes. (b) Calculate the force she applies while pushing off.

I know the answers are (a) 0.15 m/s and (b) 600 N, but how do you get it.

Thanks in advance.

Best answer:

Answer by normally laconic
momentum is conserved, so
a) mΔv = mΔv
100kg * 3m/s = 2000kg * Δv
Δv = 0.15 m/s = v
since it started from rest.

b) mΔv = FΔt
300 kg·m/s = F * 0.5s
F = 600 N

Question by : Mahayana buddhism and tehh quantum mechanics?
I’m not a buddhist but as far as I know, the only religion that includes high level physics in their doctrine is buddhism (specifically mahayana buddhism).

Of course it doesn’t actually explain it like physics does and it’s much less specific than Q physics, but both mahayana buddhism and quantum physics seem to be just two sides of the same coin. They both try to figure out the nature of reality, but they just use different methods. Quantum physics does it by studying the behavior of the smallest particles, and buddhism does it by exploring human consciousness through deep meditation.

So the question is, do any buddhists here know more about buddhist concepts that have been proven correct with quantum physics?

I know that buddhism talks about how ‘the world is mostly empty space’ (an atom is 99.99999…% empty space), ‘everything is mirrored’ (quantum entanglement) and ‘there are parallels of material reality’ (wave-particle duality).

I’m pretty sure there’s a bunch of other concepts too, just post them here if you know (I can’t seem to find anything good with google, maybe I’m just not using the right key words when I search, I dunno).

I’m not going to become a buddhist because I don’t like the idea of a religion telling me how to live my life, but it’s just mind-blowing to know that the buddha figured all this out thousands of years before we knew about particles, let alone quantum physics.

Best answer:

Answer by Marble Emperor
Mahāyāna is one of the two main existing branches of Buddhism and a term for classification of Buddhist philosophies and practice. Mahāyāna Buddhism originated in India.

The Mahāyāna tradition is the larger of the two major traditions of Buddhism existing today, the other being that of the Theravāda school. According to the teachings of Mahāyāna traditions, “Mahāyāna” also refers to the path of seeking complete enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings, also called “Bodhisattvayāna”, or the “Bodhisattva Vehicle.”

In the course of its history, Mahāyāna Buddhism spread from India to various other Asian countries such as China, Japan, Vietnam, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, and Mongolia. Major traditions of Mahāyāna Buddhism today include Zen/Chán, Pure Land, Tiantai, and Nichiren, as well as the Esoteric Buddhist traditions of Shingon, Tendai and Tibetan Buddhism.

Question by sukuella: I am planning a novella, what do you think of the story?
Its about this 17 year old girl. She and her family have gone through a terrible ordeal, her older sister committed suicide not long ago. The girl, Alexia is under deep depression even though it is time that she moved on, it has been over a year. Her parents decide that she needs to go away for a bit, somewhere that she isnt reminded by her sister. They send her to a remote town to live with a distant aunt. While living there, a travelling circus comes to the area and Alex gets a job with the circus selling popcorn and ushering people to their seats. Its there that she lays her eyes on the illusionist who is with the circus. Through his magic, allure and mystery, Alex experiences a world like she has never known. The illusionist takes Alex under his wing and guides her through her life. She comes to accept her sister’s death and she comes to understand herself and to learn to pick up the pieces.

She has already gotten all the help she can get from psychologists, what she needs is a different kind of therapy, something magical.

Its all I have at the moment, I dont know if I’ll add anything else or how it will end. I suppose there might be a tentative romance between Alex and the illusionist but I dont know to what extent it will be.
Its a start. So any suggestions or thoughts?

Illusionist might be called Gabriel like the angel. Like that name, it sounds mysterious.

Question by : In The Nature of Our Reality?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpzHmDnBTE0

“Imagination is more important than knowledge.” – Albert Einstein

“Look deep in to nature and then you will understand everything better.” – Albert Einstein

This theory is completely delineated as the main concept in my book.

This theory has been written to open our minds to potential possibilities in the nature of our realities.

Quantum Physics describes that our minds have the potential to be much greater than any of us could have ever imagined. They say that at the deepest level of consciousness, consciousness can create universes. As creating universes can be universally understood as godlike.

Now if each and every one of us deep down inside contains the potential of these abilities with our mind and hearts where with a thought anything is possible, then that means we were obviously meant to live for so much more. As you grow and learn you will adapt using different levels of percentages of your brain. The higher percentage of your brain that you use the more effective results. This is achieved through opened eyes, a heightened sense of things, and of course a deeper understanding of love.

Reaching such a conscious level can literally change our physical reality. The main concept of this theory is that through a pure and natural true love which can conjure in a pure and natural environment between two people, soul mates if you may, each of you connect in an adamantly divine way creating an amaranthine bond that can evolve our very minds, bodies, and souls.

Simply put, through a pure and natural love we can use 100% of our minds. Signifying that love (an essence which ceases doesn’t exist in space and time and that is completely produced by the heart) is the path to our Nirvana, or higher level of our consciousness which in-turn can affect the physical world in which we live. 100% of our brains could not be tapped without another essence known as the “Feel Good Effect.” I hypothesize that unless this “Feel Good Effect” is present, you cannot tap into the deeper level of your consciousness. But do not worry, once in the presence of a divine and perfect true love, the “Feel Good Effect” would continually vivify in an amaranthine vitality.

It is also plausible that our beliefs will have a major affect on our subjective and objective realities. At a higher level of consciousness, we could realize that sleep is either unnatural and a misconception in the nature of our realities or simply needed. Sleep and loss of fatigue would all be linked by our beliefs. At a higher level of consciousness eating could be unneeded also. We could potentially control the little bits of matter popping in and out all over our existence and mentally combine them into certain nutrients for that specific location in the body.

At a deeper level of consciousness we may also not ever age. Aging could also be unnatural. It may also only exist because we believe it to. In the nature of reality our bodies which are going to be governed by a deeper level of consciousness may never experience the sense of aging at all. At this point, the constant fluctuation and coalescence of love may regularly change and replenish our body’s cells for an amaranthine amount of time.

Time would be another illusionary construct only placed upon our perceptions for continual and destructive means. In the nature of our realities, time wouldn’t exist. If time doesn’t exist then all that we perceive as reality may drastically change. There wouldn’t be any means of a need for survival as the entire planet may live in an immense intent of harmony that is constantly changing, learning, and adapting so life can continually replenish itself in an everlasting pure and natural energy.

If we were put on this planet for a purpose and that purpose had to do with every aspect of this theory then something had to come down to our planet a long time ago perhaps with some sort of an intelligence and ruin the absolute potential of our race. This intelligence may have once intruded, ruined, and from scratch misguidedly re-inspired our race to lies, discomfort, and an unsatisfactory misconception of our astutely abstract and ambiguously absolute aspiration of pure and natural, predetermined, contentation.

In my theory they poisoned our minds with a much more physical reality and purpose. A closed minded and strictly mechanistic machine based one. This mostly replaced our pure and natural purpose of love with lust. Lust is a vagary of our natural perception, an obscure and obsolete illusion of affectionate consideration for one another, it is a universal awry that leads to disinterest and destruction of common relationships.

You could even then go into the crystal skulls and say that their origins could originate from our ancient ancestors whom once endured a depper level of consciousness. At a higher level of consciousness why wouldn’t we produce a
quaz. the question is stated in the titel of the question. in the nature of our reality? as in is this in the nature of our reality?
